Members of our pediatric dental team represented the College of Dentistry at last week's annual Nebraska Science Festival at the Durham Museum in Omaha. The event drew more than 750 young students throughout the day! Resident Christopher Johnson, D.D.S., and Dental Assistant Stephanee Schwieger taught kids about tooth structure, strength and simulation. They also demonstrated the remineralization and demineralization process of teeth, as well as helped the kids complete their first filling!

On April 23, the College of Dentistry celebrated the retirements of Paul A. Hansen, D.D.S. and John P. Giddings, D.D.S. They were recognized for their years of service, hard work and dedication to UNMC! Both Dr. Hansen and Dr. Giddings will retire at the end of the spring semester.

College of Dentistry students and faculty presented their e-learning modules at the April 10 E-Learning Showcase in Omaha. Check it out!

Who says learning anatomy can't be fun?! Our first year dental students recently got a hands-on lesson in cranial nerve functions in their head and neck anatomy course. They worked in small groups to test each other's cranial nerves - eye muscle testing, visual acuity testing, facial sensation testing, olfaction ‘sniff’ testing, gag reflex testing and pupillary light reflex testing!

"Being in an academic career, there isn't a boring day. You get to make a big impact on people's lives." Wise words of advice from Dr. Sarandeep Huja, dean of the Medical University of South Carolina JBE College of Dental Medicine about pursuing a career in academic dentistry. Dr. Huja is a 2000 UNMC graduate and returned to Lincoln today to give the annual Richard A. Reinhardt Lecture to first-year dental students.

A day in the life of a dental student. That's what high school and undergraduate students from across the state experienced at the annual Simulation Clinic, held April 7. Hosted by the Nebraska Chapter of the American Student Dental Association, the clinic offered hands-on demonstrations, mock interviews, DAT prep, tours, a Q&A session with current dental students, and a chance to meet the college's dean and director of admissions!

The College of Dentistry hosted the 32nd Annual Professionals Day and 51st Annual Student Scientific Program on Friday, April 13. Our Richard E. Bradley Memorial Lectureship was given by Daniel J. Shipp, Ed.D., Vice Chancellor for Student Success at UNO and UNMC.
