I hope you might still be interested in my little bumble bee. He was working really hard that day.

It was a bit chilly this morning, but the afternoon warmed up considerably. Except for a few stray blooms, this William Baffin rose has finished blooming for the season. But this bumble bee was all over it in June.

This is a close up of the battery pack for the decoupage lighted wine bottle. It is 2" long. It is not on a timer, however a battery operated light string with a timer function can be substituted. It has more lights and the battery pack is significantly larger. It also increases the cost of the project by $ 5.00.

I saw this insect on one of my yellow lilies and followed it from the back of the flower to the front. It was hunting, unsuccessfully as it turned out, but I watched it patiently creeping toward its prey for about 15 minutes. The last shot is the sharpest close up I was able to get.

This is what a portion of my hydrangea hedge looked like in July.

These are close ups of my hydrangea hedge just before and after I cut them back last spring....

Spent today doing some more yard cleanup. Beautiful day, and the hydrangea are looking good after. This variety has mostly hollow stems so I cut them down to about 6" from the base. Doing this helps prevent the branches from getting too leggy. They end up being somewhat shorter and sturdier. It also seems to encourage the shrub to spread. The shrub in the second picture began as a single transplant. Now it is about 30" across at the base. In a few weeks the plant will probably spread to 4'. I often dig the outlying shoots and give them away to friends so they can start their own hydrangea hedge.

C.S. let me use these photos of one of her many Christmas trees. This tree is in her basement and the red ornament singled out in the second photo is actually plastic. She uses all kinds of ornaments, with many different price points and her results are fantastic! Wouldn't you agree?
