City of Kingston awarded $120,000 grant from NoVo Foundation to support the Live Well Kingston Commission KINGSTON, N.Y. Mayor Steve Noble is pleased to announce the selection of the City of Kingston by the NoVo Foundation for a $60,000 per year, two-year grant award. “I made a commitment during my State of the City address this year to establish the Live Well Kingston Commission in order to strengthen and further our community’s collective wellness efforts, with the hope of ultimately enabling Kingston to become one of the healthiest cities in the state,” said Mayor Noble. “This funding support is an incredible opportunity for us to develop and coordinate an effective commission that brings together residents, businesses, community organizations and public health experts to address barriers to health and wellness in our neighborhoods.” The support of the NoVo Foundation will allow the City to hire a part-time Coordinator for the Commission and expand the efforts of the Commission’s “focus teams.” These focus teams, which include Travel Well, Eat Well, Age Well, and Play Well, work directly in the community to engage local stakeholders to build a healthier, more resilient community. In addition to the grant award, Mayor Noble is pleased to announce the appointment of all eleven Live Well Kingston Commission members. These volunteer Commissioners include: Amanda Stromoski; Anna Brett; Brooke Pickering-Cole; Dylan Johanson; Gerry Harrington; Kathleen Rogan; Margaret Gagnon; Melinda Herzog; Stacey Kraft; Stephanie Hope; and Dr. Walter Woodley. The Live Well Kingston Coordinator is expected to be hired later this summer.
Comprehensive Plan Zoning Committee Informational Presentation
The Comprehensive Plan Zoning Committee has been working to develop a multi-phase zoning update that aligns with our recently adopted Comprehensive Plan, streamlines processes, and preserves our historic and natural resources. Join us tonight for an introduction and informational overview of this effort, presented by Shuster Associates and Nelson, Pope and Voorhis LLC. Audience members will learn about why our zoning must be updated, where we are in the process, and how the public can provide input into these proposed amendments going forward. Questions from the audience will be taken following tonight's presentation. This is the first in a series of public meetings to be held this summer on the various components of this zoning update. Subsequent meetings will include opportunities for public comment and dialogue. Special thanks to The Kingston Land Trust who will be offering informal volunteer interpretation from English to Spanish at tonight's meeting.
