facebook.comBuilding Base Two Activity w/ Chat
Building Base Two in #SecondLife is a blast when the chat whispers the #subQuan as you touch the tops of the unit cubes. Once you have two of the same shape, clicking on them will join them to form the next place shape. Watch the chat to see all the different configurations of the three examples within the machinima. The fun part is, the path to the final answer can be different every time. When you can't combine any more like shapes, the chatted number will be in correct binary notation. (You may have to watch this in HD to see the chat clearly.)
We enjoyed #VWBPE17 as our workshop was well attended. A few technical glitches, but we learned lots. We also hope that others did, too. Thank you all for coming and trying out our virtual learning stations. Until next year!

Presenting this morning, 8am SLT. That's Pacific Standard time. Right now we are still fixing some bugs! :-)

Finished! Hooray! All the bases from two to ten are now represented as 3d subQuans in our virtual Base Number Sheets. Each one is programmed to create different subQuans or the same, if we are showing a pattern. We will use these models to lead a workshop at #VWBPE17. That's Friday, March 31st, at 8am PST (SLT) in #SL.

Place Shapes in bases two through seven with base ten at the far back. #subQuan are fabulous! Come to #VWBPE17 to join the workshop. #IOT1 https://t.co/Q5O0uWi43r

Cooper caught in the act! These subQuans will one day open the eyes of a child or an adult and help them understand numbers like they never have before.
SL Base 6 morphed to base 8 scripted build
The scripting is good. Setting up the textures first, when the subQuans are smaller, makes this the last stage of a subQuan build. This one is now ready to show off. Cooper has debugged all the scripting and it looks fabulous! A quick way to transform 9 Place Shapes in base 6 to nine Place Shapes in base 8. Numbers have never been more real.
SL Base 5 morphed to base 7 scripted build
Second shot, this time at base five morphed into base seven. Pretty darn cool! Well done, Cooper! Even less debugging this time. Now on to the texture replacement. Nine digit subQuans really showcase the patterns in numbers!
Base 4 to Base 6 scripting morph of a subQuan
Cooper Patterson figured out a way to program the build of a new base. Here is the machinima of the first test of the scripting. We used base four and turned it into base six with correct dimensions just not textures. This is an awesome feat of a build that used to take a day. Only a few bugs in the system as you can see, but they are easy to fix. What an awesome display of technology!
Math Rebellion
This is so cool! We call these untraditional, which means they are uncontained: The amount of place shapes surpass their base number. This allows us to see 357,243,581 base 3 in the first example. Now that's a subQuan!
VWBPE17 Exhibit subQuan
Quite mesmerizing these 8-digit numbers. Here's a sneak peek of just one activity at our exhibit for VWBPE17.
