Our Week For You A Week-In-Review of the day-to-day work and efforts of the City of Hobbs municipal government October 27, 2017 🇺🇸As this creepier than usual month begins with cooler days and dew-filled mornings, we are continuing to improve upon our services to you, as well as help get you ready for the holiday at the end of the month. We’d also like to make you aware that November 1st has been proclaimed “Extra Mile Day” in Hobbs. At October 16th’s City Commission Meeting, November 1st, 2017 was proclaimed “Extra Mile Day!” Extra Mile Day is a day to celebrate individuals and organizations that go the extra mile to make a difference and lift up others in the community. It is a day to renew our commitment to going the extra mile in personal effort, volunteerism, and service, and it is a day to acknowledge and thank those around us who go the extra mile for us in our everyday lives. For info on how to get involved, visit www.extramileday.org. 🔥In order to take advantage of Fire Prevention Week a coupes weeks back, the Hobbs Fire Department visited over 10 grades at different elementary schools throughout Hobbs to educate them on fire safety. The children learned tips to make themselves and their friends and family safe, along with learning what to do in the case of an emergency. So, don't be surprised when your kiddos are reminding you to change the smoke alarm batteries every 6 months and instructing you on the best evacuation routes from your home. This is a special opportunity for our Hobbs firefighters, and they are happy to bring it to you. Keep an eye out for a video full of different clips and photos of all the fun they had with these classes! – It will be posted soon to the Hobbs Fire Department’s Facebook page! 📡🎙🖥Some other tips we'd like to share with you are places to get information and updates about the City of Hobbs, such as road construction updates, upcoming events, emergency information, and much more. The City has a radio station KHBX 99.3 – listen here for commercial-free updates while you drive throughout the day. On our website, we publish the same information and ways for you to pay bills online, view livestreamed Commission meetings, and give access to other online services. The Hobbs News-Sun regularly posts important updates and messages in the left-hand rail on the front page of their daily newspaper (excluding Tuesdays), so we'd encourage you to support local business and check out your local newspaper for great information. There is also a calendar of events every day where the editorial staff includes information about events all over our community. On HobbsEvents.org, nonprofits throughout the county post information about their upcoming events and seasons, making this another great resource for citizens like you. As always, feel free to give us a call our send us a private message on Facebook to ask questions and give feedback any time! 📚Last week was National Friends of Libraries Week! The staff at Hobbs Public Library wished to show their appreciation for the hard work of the group all year long to support our library and hosted an appreciation breakfast for the group this morning. The Friends of the Library group holds used book sales and through their membership drive and other donation efforts, support various library programs and services, particularly for the young adult and children's areas. "The library staff wished to show our appreciation to the Friends group for their hard work they do all year to support our programs and services. We felt that a great time to do this would be during the National Friends of Libraries Week," Sandy Farrell, Library Director. Thank you for all your hard work and commitment, members of the Friends of the Library! 👻When it comes to having fun, it's important that everyone is able to do so. That is why we will continue sharing candle, costume, and general safety tips throughout this month, so keep an eye out for them on Facebook and in the media! Nobody knows how to educate you on fire, safety, and clothing safety like our fire and police stations! The City of Hobbs is not the organization that runs the annual Safe Stops, but we do participate as one of the stops along the route! Come by to see your building officials, finance officers, and many other public servants dressed up and City Hall decorated on Tuesday, October 31st! For more information, call your local radio stations KZOR and KPZA at (575)397-4969. 🎉This weekend is PACKED with events! Whether it is the Hobbs Farmers Market at Green Meadow Park, the Haunted House at The Playhouse, the City of Hobbs Halloween Carnival, Drug Take Back Day at both local Walgreen’s locations, or Battle of the Food Trucks at Crosswinds Community Church, there’s something for everyone! So don’t forget to check the calendar of your local newspaper and visit HobbsEvents.org to plan your days. Have a great weekend, and always remember that we are here for YOU!

Hey Hobbs! Check out these Halloween Fire Safety tips we have for you to keep your loved ones safe! Remember: Keep all matches and lighters up and out of reach of children. Never leave a child unattended with an open flame. Additionally we'd like to add if your children plan on going to a Halloween party at someone else's house, we recommend they look around to know where all of the exits are in case of a fire, and to always have a plan. Preparedness is important! Stay safe and have a spooky Halloween!

Congratulations on 15 years to Bob Hamilton. Mr. Hamilton works at the Hobbs Public Library as a Reference Librarian with Sandy Farrell, who is in the photograph with him. “Bob is an extremely valuable member of the library team and his dedication to the library and to the City of Hobbs is truly appreciated.” Sandy Farrell, Library Director. “Having come from larger cities and having worked at large libraries, Hobbs was a bit of a culture shock at first, but over the past 15 years I’ve come to truly relish both my job here at the library, and the city itself.” Bob Hamilton, Reference Librarian. Thank you for all that you do for the community! We appreciate your hard work and dedication.
