Part 2: Helping a neighbor in Jesus' name
What Jesus' followers do! Helping a neighbor after Irma...
We are open! Our staff have all returned safely, and we are ready to work alongside you again. We are thankful and grateful that all of you all safe! While Hinesville did not suffer as many communities did, property damage is real, and some of you may have significant damage. If we can help you, please message the church office. We are preparing to send people to homes where cleanup may require a team effort. All church activities resume tonight, with Bible Study at 6:00 PM in the Ollie Darsey Class, and Chancel Choir rehearsal at 6:30 PM in the Sanctuary. Good news: repairs to audio/visual system are scheduled to begin Friday! Don't expect miracles perhaps this Sunday, but soon! If you'd like to help relieve suffering in the aftermath of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, consider giving to the United Methodist Committee on Relief. No other non-profit charity I know utilizes 100% of your giving to disaster relief. Even though we did not gather in our sanctuary Sunday, we still need approximately $30,000 each month to carry on our work. We do what you empower us to do, so please remember the powerful grace that God offers through us, and help us make such grace real for the children and youth and adults who need it! May you receive God's grace and love as powerful gifts for you this day!
From Jason Floyd, Hinesville City Council: To share with your constituents: The Liberty County Emergency Management Agency, in conjunction with the Board of Education, will provide transportation for anyone that can not evacuate on their own. The Evacuation assembly area is at 800 Tupelo Trail, Hinesville, Georgia. (Shuman Recreation Center) The manifest time is 1:00 pm and the buses are scheduled to depart at 2:00 pm today. Please make sure you bring your medications, and a three day supply of clothing. If you don’t have transportation, you need to meet at your city hall by 12:00 pm for pick up by Liberty Transit. Pets must be in a carrier, food and shot records must accompany the pet.
URGENT MESSAGE! IMMPORTANT INFORMATION! There will be no worship services or Sunday School this coming Sunday. All other church activities are suspended until after Hurricane Irma has left our area, and after we have assessed our facilities. We are making this call based on information from city officials. There is a high probability that by Sunday morning, Hinesville will be experiencing tropical storm force winds in advance of Irma. By Sunday morning, you either should have evacuated the area, or be safe in your home or a shelter. We do not want anyone traveling to church. Even tropical storm force winds can make driving hazardous, pushing against your vehicle, or sending debris flying. We ask that you do one thing for us today. Please call your neighbors who attend our church and give them this message. Not everyone gets email or is on any of our social media platforms. They need this information as well as you do. Thank you for looking out for your neighbor. Whether you evacuate or stay in place, you are in our prayers. You are our family, and we trust in God’s providence and grace for you, even as we face a potentially great crisis. After the storm, we will see what needs any of you may have, and will organize help as you may need. May God hold you well in the palm of God’s hand! Grace and peace, Dale
