facebook.comThe Art of Neighboring Today is #TrinitySunday, which reminds us of a core truth of our faith. God is not alone. God is a community of three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. At the very center of being and existence, at the very center of the reality that is God, we find a community. This means that God in his essence is relational. God, who is the ultimate reality, is a community of persons who know and love one another. The life of the Trinity is characterized by a mutually self-giving love. There is a unity and interdependence among all three people. Since we are made in the image and likeness of God, we are made to live in connection with others — at work, at school, and in our neighborhoods. Pray today for your neighborhood. Pray that it will reflect the connection and community of the Trinity.

Love Lives May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, give you a Spirit of wisdom and revelation resulting in knowledge of him. — Ephesians 1:17 Paul tells the Ephesians that he is praying for them. He prays that they will know God. However, he does not mean that they will just have an intellectual understanding of God. He doesn’t just mean head knowledge but heart knowledge. He means an intimate relationship with God that comes from a lived relationship. Ask God for the grace to know him better today.

Love Lives When they had gathered together they asked him, “Lord are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” He answered them, “It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has established by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” — Acts 1:6-8 Jesus tells the apostles that it is none of their business when God is going to finally and completely establish his kingdom. Then he tells them what their mission, what there business is. They are to be his witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea and to the ends of the earth. Their job is to introduce everyone to God’s kingdom and into a relationship with God. The apostles’ mission is our mission as well. God loves us and then invites us to share his love with others by bringing people far from him into a relationship with him. Wherever we go, we have the opportunity to build God’s kingdom by inviting people into a relationship with their heavenly Father. We are to be witnesses of the love God has shown us. Pray today for the opportunity to be a witness of God’s love to people who don’t know him. Ask God to show you one person you can be a witness to today.
Love Lives When they had gathered together they asked him, “Lord are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” He answered them, “It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has established by his own authority.” — Acts 1:6-7 The apostles ask Jesus if he is going to restore the kingdom of Israel. They still do not understand that Jesus did not come to establish a political and geographical kingdom but a spiritual kingdom. They don’t get it until they receive the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. And so Jesus tells them to not worry about when God is going to fully and finally establish his kingdom because they don’t even truly understand it. The kingdom of God is wherever God rules and God reigns. God wants to establish his kingdom in each of our hearts. Our job first and foremost is to establish God’s kingdom in our hearts. Pray today that God’s kingdom comes into your heart. Pray his will be done in your life as in heaven.
Small little things that make our Parish special. Happy #MothersDay to all the mothers who bring joy and love.
Love Lives Jesus said to his disciples: “This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father.” — John 15:12-15 Jesus commands the disciples to love one another by laying down their lives for one another. Love looks to sacrifice for others and puts others’ needs ahead of our own. Then Jesus says that when we sacrifice for others we understand him. We grow closer in our friendship with Jesus. If we want to get to know Jesus better then we will sacrifice for others. Prayer certainly brings us closer to Jesus, but it is not enough. Becoming an intimate friend with Jesus requires sacrificial love. Mentally walk through your day. What will be the small opportunities you will have to sacrifice for the people around you? Ask the Holy Spirit to show you those opportunities and to act upon them so you can be friends with Jesus.
