"I know the residents have been very patient before and during construction, but I believe it was well worth the wait. The drainage is improved, the road is smooth and the brick intersections were preserved. Nice Work!" Council member Christine Brown.

Policy Committees

https://mygulfport.us/flc_appointments/ City of Gulfport - Florida league of Cities Legislative Policy Committee Appointments Each year, municipal officials from across the state volunteer to serve on the Florida League of Cities five Legislative policy committees. "Municipal officials are the driving force behind the League’s legislative success. In addition to setting the legislative priorities, the League’s policy committee members help to provide League staff with a better understanding of the real world implications of proposed legislation,” said Florida League of Cities Legislative Director Scott Dudley. “We appreciate their willingness to serve, as there is a significant commitment of time and energy that goes into developing a policy direction for our legislative efforts.” The Florida League of Cities has appointed Gulfport Mayor Samuel Henderson to the Utilities, Natural Resources, and Public Works Committee. This committee addresses policies specific to municipal concerns with coastal management, energy, environmental and wetlands permitting, hazardous and toxic wastes, recycling, solid waste collection and disposal, stormwater, wastewater treatment and reuse, water management, water quality and quantity. Vice Mayor Dan Liedtke was appointed to the Transportation and Intergovernmental Relations Committee. This committee addresses municipal concerns relating to transportation and highway safety, as well as aviation, affordable housing (and homelessness), billboards, building codes, charter schools, rights-of-way and veterans affairs. Councilmember Yolanda Roman was appointed to the Land Use and Economic Development Committee. This committee addresses policies specific to municipal concerns with community redevelopment, economic development, growth management and land use planning issues, annexation, eminent domain, tort liability and property rights. Appointments are typically a one-year commitment and involve developing the League’s Legislative Action Agenda detailing priority issues that are most likely to affect daily municipal governance and local decision making during the upcoming legislative session. Policy committee members also help League staff understand the real world implications of proposed legislation and are asked to serve as advocates throughout the legislative process. For more information on the Florida League of Cities’ Legislative Policy Development Process, please visit http://www.floridaleagueofcities.com/advocacy/policy-committees. ### Founded in 1922, the Florida League of Cities is the united voice for Florida’s municipal governments. Its goals are to promote local self-government and serve the needs of Florida’s cities. Florida’s cities are formed by their citizens and governed by their citizens. The League is founded on the belief that local self-government is the keystone of American democracy. For more information, visit www.floridaleagueofcities.com.
