#TBT today goes all the way back to 1896! Here is a photo of the first hospital site on Colorado Avenue. The other is an article clip from The Daily Sentinel on May 22, 1896 announcing the opening of St. Mary’s. Fun fact- it’s a bit unclear when the Sisters of Charity first opened their doors in Grand Junction. According to hospital records, St. Mary’s first patient was a “Mr. Henderson” a few days before May 22, 1896. No Grand Junction newspapers, hospital records, or documents have been found that recorded an official opening date. Nonetheless, The Daily Sentinel of Grand Junction did give the hospital its first official coverage, announcing its opening to the public on that day!
