Today's Letter to the Editor in the The Daily Sentinel of Grand Junction is worth the read. Community Hospital is proud to partner with forward thinking organizations such as Mesa County Valley School District 51 in an effort to lower health care costs in our community. #CommunityPartnerships "Give school board credit for partnership with Community In reference to The Daily Sentinel’s story from Sept. 20, “Health costs drop for school district employees,” I think a considerable amount of credit should be given to the District 51 school board for its decision to enter into a health insurance agreement with Community Hospital. In retrospect, the decision was quite clearly the correct one, and has paid off. In saving employees thousands of dollars in health care deductibles and premiums, the district has shown itself to be not just a conscientious employer who cares for the people that work for it and does right by them, but also a good steward of the public’s money. By making a wise choice regarding health-care insurance, the district has potentially saved untold thousands of dollars in future medical costs that in all likelihood would end up having to be covered, directly or indirectly, by the district via the taxpayer. We elect people to public offices, like the school board, in the expectation that they will exercise prudence, good judgment, and a critical eye in evaluating public proposals on our behalf, including public employee benefits. I have often felt that we are lucky in Mesa County to have elected officials, at all levels, with these traits. The decision of the D51 board to partner with Community Hospital, in producing such favorable results, only strengthens that conviction." ANDREA NICKERSON Grand Junction
