I am going to be down and out for a while due to surgery. As soon as possible, I will be back up and running. Thanks for the understanding. Retina detached in my right eye resulting in 99% vision loss in the eye. Doc says I will have most of my vision back in 6 weeks or so. Full recovery may take up to a year. I appreciate the patience and I will be back forging as soon as released by the doc to do so. Currently on mandatory bed rest.
Put my maker's mark on it and got it hair popping sharp. Will be available in a few days. Need to make a sheath. Forged from 1085 with maroon and tan micarta handle scales and brass pins. Rust blued finish came out looking great.

Putting the finishing touches on an EDC for a special client. 270 layer random pattern damascus and hybrid scales from Rob Carper at RCI.
I forged this knife a while back for Justin while visiting Wes Owens at his shop. Forged from a 3/4" round bar of 1085 Japanese Cutlery steel. I put a false edge on the spine and made it sharp. It's small for a fighter, but a cool knife anyway. Justin likes it. For those that don't know, Justin is my youngest son, who is 21. Damn I'm getting old. Lol. Did some edge testing on a treated piece of 1x4.
Spent Sunday in the shop making damascus with Wes Owens from Wesley Owens Knives and we taught John Sedberry (allpositionwelder on Instagram) how to make damascus. We ended up with 2 bars at 270 layers and 2 bars at 288 layers. We also made some 32 layer bars that will be a low layer count twist. Wes pressed out a bar of 1095 and 15N20 Sam Mai (3 layers) steel. It was hot and humid and was 100* at one point in the shop. Mack Lyons from M3 knives and Mack (Jr) stopped by as did Lynn Hardison from Hardison Knives to hang out for a bit.
Kitchen utility knife forged from 1085 high carbon steel. Tempered on the hard side for kitchen use. This one will get desert ironwood pants.
Bear with me as there is a lot going on here. 270 layers of 1095 high carbon steel and 15N20 high nickel steel. Folded and stacked. Forged into a knife. It was then etched in ferric chloride, lightly sanded then cold blued and soaked in coffee. Getting Honduran rosewood Burl handle scales and blued steel pins.
Got to be grandpa for several hours today. Managed to finish one knife and heat treat a damascus knife after baby Charlotte went home. Long stinking day. It's midnight and I'm updating my page. #bladesmith, #forgedknife, #forged, #madeincharleston, #grandpa, #customknives
