Interventional cardiologist Paul E. Kudelko II, DO, FACC, and the cardiac catheterization team at Sumner Regional Medical Center are thrilled to be one of the first in the region to complete a Tryton Side Branch Stent for bifurcation. The procedure restores blood flow to the heart muscle without the need for open-heart surgery in patients with coronary artery disease. "Innovations in cardiology technology is increasingly allowing patients in community hospitals access to the same world class care as larger downtown facilities," Dr. Kudelko said of the new technology at SRMC. "It's a win-win for both patients and physicians." Fellow interventional cardiologist Reginald Dickerson, MD, attended the procedure and will be incorporating this new technology to treat patients as well, along with additional interventional cardiologists on staff at SRMC. The procedure was completed in the new cardiac catheterization lab the hospital added this summer, the second cardiac cath lab at SRMC to serve patients with cardiac and vasular diseases. Dwight Eidson, CSR, with Cordis Health - the manufacturer of the Tryton stent - added, "I am as excited as Cordis is to launch this new technology at SRMC. This technology enables patients with bifurcation disease to be treated closer to home, with a less invasive treatment and shorter recovery time."
