Higher Education professor awarded co-funded grant to continue work on performance-based funding

Congratulations to Justin Ortagus, director of the Institute of Higher Education and assistant professor of Higher Education & Policy, who recently received $373,590 in co-funding to analyze how variations in performance-based funding policies impact outcomes for underserved students and under-resourced institutions. This grant serves as Phase Two of a two-part project to identify the impact of PBF policy design elements on college access and student success.

Triple Gators receive AACTE 2019 Outstanding Article Award

Help us to congratulate Triple Gators Melanie Acosta (B.S. ‘02, M.Ed. ‘09, Ph.D. ‘13) and Diedre Houchen (B.S. ‘05, M.A.E. ‘09, Ph.D. ‘15), who were recognized by the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) with a 2019 Outstanding Article Award for their collaborative work published in the Journal of Teacher Education. Their work examines the challenges ever present in the recruitment and preparation of today’s teaching force, and poses an opportunity for improvement by reclaiming and realigning African American pedagogical excellence as a leading resource in teacher education.

Patricia Snyder Named UF Distinguished Professor

Help us to congratulate Patricia Snyder, David Lawrence Jr. Endowed Chair in Early Childhood Studies, for being awarded the title of UF Distinguished Professor. “Dr. Snyder is internationally and nationally recognized for her leadership in transforming the field of early intervention and early childhood special education through innovative research,” stated Glenn Good, dean of the University of Florida College of Education. This high honor acknowledges an exceptional record of achievement in the areas of teaching, research and publication, and professional and public service. Snyder is the director of the UF Anita Zucker Center for Excellence in Early Childhood Studies and professor of special education and early childhood studies.
