#Thanks - 27 May 2017

The Archbishop of Canterbury (the spiritual leader of our worldwide Anglican Communion) is calling on us to pray between Ascension Day and Pentecost for more people to come to know Jesus Christ and his love. There are many resources (videos, written reflections, etc.) at the thykingdomcome.global website. They have posted this short video for today, featuring a youth voice. #pledge2pray

Happy Ascension Day! It's wonderful to see the sun this morning. Our service of Holy Communion this evening to celebrate this principal feast day will be at 7 p.m. All are welcome! "Grant we pray, Almighty God, that as we believe your only-begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ to have ascended into heaven, so we may also in heart and mind there ascend and with him continually dwell..." (Book of Common Prayer p. 226) Here are a couple of shots of our Ascension stained glass window, given in memory of the Rev. Edward C. McGuire, 12th Rector of St. George's

Sunday Announcements for May 21, 2017 - St. George's Episcopal Church

With the Historic Half this morning and Habits of the Heart also going on this weekend, we're sure we missed some of you this morning. Not to worry: The Sunday announcements are now available on the web so that you can catch up with what you missed. A little bit easier to read than having all of these as individual web entries or buried in newsletter navigation, this is in our regular "news and announcements" feed. We'll be continuing to retool the web based on feedback we get in our communications survey so that it's a more effective place for the congregation to get information in addition to helping seekers looking for a church home in Fredericksburg.

Good luck to all the runners in tomorrow's Historic Half and Semper 5 races. We had a blessing and anointing of feet this afternoon in the narthex entryway of the church. We look forward to cheering on the runners in between services!

Traffic and parking downtown this weekend will be affected by the Marine Corps Historic Half, which will close William St., Princess Anne St., and Caroline St. for a good portion of the morning on Sunday. Be aware and plan accordingly (Hanover St. is a good alternate route). You won't want to miss Adult Forum this Sunday as we're looking back on a great year and opening the curtain on what you'll see in Adult Forum next year. Most of the race should be wrapped up by 10 a.m. but see the map below for specific information on street closures. And if anyone would like to join us early Sunday morning to come out and cheer the runners as they pass St. George's, we'll see you there! And if you're running? Our rector will be in the narthex at 5:15 p.m. for a 10-minute prayer service to bless feet and shoes of anyone participating in the races on Sunday.

We were so blessed to have our 80-and-up friends with us today for a midday Eucharist service and luncheon! We love connecting with this group at this event, which we hold twice a year. We're also so grateful for our volunteers who helped prepare and serve the meal.

On Rogation Sunday a couple of weeks ago, our Kids Care outreach group for 2nd-5th graders worked on creating a garden in the courtyard in front of McGuire Hall. This morning, we discovered we have baby tomatoes in that garden!
