BOARD & COMMISSION OPENINGS CITY OF FORT ATKINSON The City of Fort Atkinson has openings on the following Boards and Committees and asks if there are any City residents that would be interested in serving on one of them, that they complete the “Citizen Service Information Form” which may be obtained from the City Manager’s office, or on the City’s website. The form can be downloaded from the following website: www.fortatkinsonwi.net, “Your Government” and then “Boards and Committees”. The following are the openings: Airport Committee - One position (4-year term) Ambulance Adv Comm. - One position (no specified term) Library Board - One position (this position is for a rural Fort Atkinson resident) (3-year term) Tourism Commission - One position (1-year term) Any letters of interest should be submitted to the City Manager, 101 North Main Street, Fort Atkinson, or at mtrebatoski@fortatkinsonwi.net no later than May 5, 2017. If there are any questions regarding these openings, feel free to contact the City Manager’s office, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at 563-7760. If interested in other committees, you still can submit an application to be kept on file and considered when an opening exists.

DOG AND CAT LICENSE renewals need to be obtained by City residents prior to April 3, 2017 to avoid a $5.00 per animal late fee. If you had a dog or cat licensed with us last year and no longer have that pet, please contact us at 563-7760 so the information may be deleted from our records.
SPRING HYDRANT FLUSHING - On Saturday, April 22, 2017, hydrant flushing will be conducted on the south side of the City in the industrial area. Flushing will be conducted in the Janesville Avenue area, south of Sixth Street and west of Grove Street. Monday, April 24, 2017, through Thursday, April 27, 2017, hydrant flushing will be conducted on the south side of the City; Thursday April 27, 2017 through Friday May 5, 2017, hydrant flushing will be conducted on the north side of the City; Friday, May 5, 2017 through Wednesday, May 10, 2017, directional hydrant flushing will be conducted on the south side of the City. Hydrant flushing will start at 5:00 a.m. each day. All areas within the City may be affected during flushing; therefore, residents are urged to observe the clarity of their water prior to use. If discoloration appears, use the City cold tap water until it clears.

LISTENING SESSION: The Fort Atkinson City Council will be holding a listening session for City residents on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at TPF Outdoors, 102 West Sherman Avenue. The City Council will not be taking any action, or making any recommendations at this session.

GREEN AWARD NOMINATION: The City of Fort Atkinson is soliciting nominations for the Green Award. This award is presented to showcase the environmental efforts of area businesses, community organizations and individual citizens. Businesses and individuals who are implementing procedures to lessen harmful environmental impacts will be recognized. It is hoped that this may inspire others to make changes that lessen the environmental impacts on their lifestyle and operations. Nomination for an award will share the business/individual’s story; recognize individual’s, group’s or employee’s hard work; highlight good environmental practices; receive well-deserved press coverage; and promote industry firsts and significant accomplishments. Nominations should be submitted to the City Manager, 101 North Main Street, Fort Atkinson, WI, 53538 by January 27, 2017. A form for the nomination, and the rules and guidelines may be picked up at the City Manager’s office or downloaded off the City’s website at www.fortatkinsonwi.net.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION OPENINGS: The City of Fort Atkinson is seeking six residents with recognized experience and qualifications to serve on its newly created Economic Development Commission. The primary purpose of the Commission is to move development and redevelopment initiatives forward on behalf of the city. Duties also include promotion of city-owned land, business recruitment and retention, and recommendation of policies designed to facilitate business development and growth in Fort Atkinson. Letters of interest should be sent to the City Manager at 101 N. Main Street, Fort Atkinson, or by email to mtrebatoski@fortatkinsonwi.net no later than January 20, 2017. RECYCLING PICK UP DELAY – Due to the inclement weather, Advanced Disposal is having problems with equipment and the recycling pickup vehicle is behind in the emptying of those totes. It is requested that residents put the totes out on the normal pickup day, however the pickup could be delayed a day.
