Inova Fairfax Animal Assisted Care
Description
The Inova Fairfax Medical Campus Animal Assisted Care (AAC) program was established in 2001 to complement the patient's recovery process. The AAC has enjoyed a great deal of success and recognition by improving the physical and emotional well-being The IFMC Animal Assisted Care Program Provides:
• Animal Assisted Activities
Allows a patient to visit with a dog while in the hospital
• Animal Assisted Therapy
Works with the healthcare team and patient to provides
tasks for the patient and the dog to accomplish together to meet care goals
• Personal Assistance Therapy
Introduces persons with disabilities to the benefits of service animals and the agencies that provide them
• Own Pet Visitation
Provides long-term or terminally-ill patients with an opportunity to visit with their own dogs
• Service Animal Guidance
Educates the staff and the patient with a service animal of the roles and responsibilities while the patient and the service animal are in the hospital
