Naval Station Everett
Description
Naval Station Everett is one of four U.S. Navy Installations in the Northwest Region.
Naval Station Everett is the U.S. Navy’s most modern shore installation, dedicated in 1994. It was efficiently designed to homeport a carrier strike group, including one nuclear-powered aircraft carrier and six surface ships.
Everett has one of only two Navy-owned deep water ports on the West Coast of the continental United States. The natural deep water port requires no dredging to maintain water depth at the piers and has no tidal or navigational restrictions on ship movement.
NSE is currently homeport to five destroyers, USS Momsen, USS Shoup, USS Gridley, USS Sampson, and USS Kidd, as well as Commander, Carrier Strike Group 11 and Commander, Destroyer Squadron 9. In addition, the base supports a Coast Guard buoy-tender and a Coast Guard coastal patrol boat. Military Sealift Command supply vessels and other visiting ships also use the Navy port on a regular basis.
The Smokey Point Family Support Complex is located off the main base, 11 miles north in Marysville. Its community support facilities serve sailors and families living in the region, as well as military retirees. It contains the Navy Exchange, Commissary, Fleet and Family Services, and transient quarters and lodging.
NSE also supports mission-critical functions at Jim Creek Radio Station in Arlington and Naval Facility Pacific Beach on Washington's Pacific coast. The radio station maintains communication with submarines in the Pacific. It is surrounded by a 5,000-acre Jim Creek Wilderness Recreation Area that includes a Navy protected old growth forest. Naval Facility Pacific Beach supports training for Navy pilots from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island.
NSE's areas of responsibility within the Northwest Region encompass Acoustic Research Detachment in Bayview, Idaho and Naval Radio Transmitter Facility in LaMoure, North Dakota. Its Navy reserve activities include 16 Navy Operational Support Centers.
