Our Auxiliary hosted the 8th annual Chefs' Challenge on Friday evening, April 28. The event gathered four local chefs each creating dishes based on themes selected by the event’s planning committee. Each chef prepared an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. A sold-out crowd of just over 200 at the Singerly Fire Hall ballroom enjoyed the tastings and after each round voted for their favorite. At the end of the evening when all the votes had been tallied it was determined that Chef Ernie Herzog from the North East River Yacht Club was the winner. The other participating chefs were Ingrid Minihane from Minihane’s Pub and Restaurant, Chef Noelyn DeRoxas from the Union Hospital Nutrition and Dietary and Department and Chef Kevin McDevitt from Station Ale House on Main Street in North East, Md. It was the closest voting margin in the history of the event.

The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) has awarded Union Hospital the 2017 ANCC Pathway Award™, sponsored by Cerner. The $25,000 ANCC Pathway Award™ honors a project proposal in a Pathway to Excellence® designated organization that demonstrates innovation and technology to create a positive nurse practice environment. The monetary award — sponsored by Cerner, a global leader in health care technology — will be used to further implement and expand the project. This year's award was presented Thursday, April 27 at the ANCC Pathway to Excellence Conference® in Dallas.
