It's Earth Week! Thursday, April 18, Majora Carter, a Peabody Award Winning Broadcaster and social entrepreneur, will be speaking on “Designing the Built Environment for Equality". Carter utilizes green spaces, the built environment, and community building to tackle social inequality. Join Sustainable Duke, Duke Student Government, and Duke Student Wellness as we welcome Majora to Duke! RSVP for a seat to join her for a reception beforehand, 5:30p-6:30p, on the 2nd floor of DuWelll! Following, she will resume from 6:30p-8:00p in Wellness Center Room 148! The Innovation Co-Lab is excited to announce its first-ever Artist Residency with multi-disciplinary sculptor and fabricator Zak Weinberg. During his week-long residency at the Innovation Co-Lab, Zak will be leading workshops, teaching students about laser fabrication, sharing his process, and designing a new piece of art to be hung in the Co-Lab Studio. Members of the Duke Community can visit our Studios throughout the week to observe and work together with Zak on this project. This will last until Friday April 12! Residency Kickoff Monday, April 8, 2019, 12-2pm, Innovation Co-Lab Classroom at the Ruby Meet the artist and enjoy a presentation on creative process and influence, followed by opportunities for Q&A and casual discussion. No signup required. Making Mandalas in Illustrator - Co-Lab Roots Workshop Tuesday, April 9, 2019, 2-4pm, Innovation Co-Lab Classroom at the TEC Hands-on Adobe Illustrator workshop led by Zak Weinberg, exploring and experimenting with geometric principles, layering, intersection, and generating patterns. Participants will leave with a design that they can laser-cut later in the week.
