From Sam Odom: Fitness and staying active have always been important to me; and for someone who really likes beer and cheeseburgers, I also need it. Because let me tell you, I REALLY like beer and cheeseburgers. No matter what kind of location changes I have made in my life—whether it is moving from one state to another or to the other side of town—I make sure there is a gym where I can stay active. But not just any gym—but instead a place where you come for the exercise, and stay for the people who make the gym what it is. When I moved back to Dothan, I joined a regular 24-hour gym to keep myself active and help battle the stress that comes with college and everyday life. It was okay and it worked for a while; but like I said, it was just a regular gym, and my routine became rather mundane. After about a year, my friends talked me into joining a H.I.I.T. style workout program, and after some convincing, I decided to give it a try. The gym was rather small but the class had about 20 people in it, and I had no idea what I was getting myself into. When the workout began, I was immediately exhausted and quickly learned that there was a big difference between just working out at a gym and actually being fit. It was fast paced, always changing, and kept me on my toes. When the workout ended, I knew I was coming back for more. Over the next 7 months, my fitness got better, my physique got better, and my social circle grew. I became really good friends with the coach, Bethany. She really made the workouts special and accommodated the exercises to the class’s needs; all while being incredibly encouraging and giving the advice you needed to make yourself better. Bethany soon received a great opportunity to work with another gym to teach classes along with personal training, and because of how incredible she was, we followed. Walking into Xtreme Health and Fitness for the first time came with the feeling of being slightly overwhelmed but also excited. It was fairly different than previous gyms I had exercised at, from independent workout stations, to personal training rooms, to a huge area in the back of the gym dedicated to group workout classes. So, excitement doesn’t accurately describe how great it felt. The group workout classes were similar to what I had previously been accustomed to, except a little more intense, or should I say… Xtreme (heyooo). Fast forward to now, nearly a year since I decided to join this awesome gym staffed with incredible people, who I look forward to seeing every day. They are constantly finding ways to make the gym interesting and different by integrating new workouts and creating challenges. The trainers have helped my form and technique more than I can thank them for. I still really like beer and cheeseburgers, but now I balance that out by being a part of an incredible gym family. Like I said, the best gyms are the ones where you come for the exercise, but stay for the people who make the gym what it is, and I’m pretty sure I found it.
