Food Bank of Iowa
Description
The Food Bank of Iowa is a private, not-for-profit organization striving to meet the critical food needs of a diverse population through our network of 375 Besides traditional food banking, the Food Bank of Iowa operates four successful programs:
BackPack Program™ – The program serves more than 4,000 low income children each week at 96 sites in 23 Iowa counties with sacks of child friendly, easy-to-prepare foods for weekends.
Help Us Stop Hunger (HUSH) program – In 2012-2013, the program harvested and distributed over 220,000 pounds of ground venison statewide.
Fresh Produce Program – In 2012, the Newton Correctional Facility dedicated 12 acres of garden space to plant fresh produce benefiting the Food Bank and its partner agencies. To date, more than 160,000 lbs. of fresh produce has been harvested and distributed to clients in need.
Mobile Pantry Program – A mobile pantry is a farmers market style distribution targeted toward counties with a need for additional pantry assistance, providing an additional strategy toward bridging the food assistance gap, specifically in rural counties in our service area, by providing an additional access point for food.

While the Des Moines and Ottumwa Food Bank offices are closed this Labor Day, we think about those in the work force who are working at least one job but their income falls below the poverty level. Over 3/4 of Iowans who are able to work do hold jobs, but many are not able to make ends meet. These families are often faced with tough financial choices when stretching paychecks. Please consider a gift to Food Bank of Iowa today to help us support our friends and neighbors in need: https://give.foodbankiowa.org/checkout/4650

Please share a "Thank You" below, for the individuals in the warehouse who work so hard to get this food out the door. We couldn't do it without them!
