Greetings from David Chavez born in Deming. Just for your information,,,I will be at the Deming Art Center this Sunday the 29th to display my Watercolors 40 0f them. They will be displayed for a month. David Vega Chavez David Chavez was born in Deming, New Mexico where, at an early age, he began drawing and painting. In high school, while continuing his art, he began designing sets for school musicals and dramatic plays. In 1970 he received his BFA with teaching credentials from the University of New Mexico. It was during his college years that he became involved in Community Theater, which would eventually take him away from his artwork to become a professional choreographer, director and dancer. During the next 25 years, his artwork took a back seat as he worked in motion pictures, television, concert performances and nightclubs in Las Vegas. Upon his return to Albuquerque as Artistic Director with the New Mexico Ballet Company, he took advantage of his return to begin painting seriously again. In 1993 he was asked to exhibit his artwork at Weems Galleries; then, a year later, he was asked to show at Weems Artfest ’94. More art shows were to follow. He now exhibits in all the top annual art shows in New Mexico. In 1999 he retired his dancing shoes in order to concentrate on his artwork full time. Chavez is most closely associated with the architecture and landscapes of New Mexico. His favorite media are Watercolor, Acrylic and Egg Tempera. His paintings capture the magic of the New Mexican light, from sultry summer days to the cold, barren landscapes of northern New Mexico winters. Other favorite subjects are the architecture and landscapes of Spain, France, England, Scotland, Greece and Italy. All visited by David throughout his travels as an artist and dancer.

His favorite mediums are Watercolor, Acrylic and Egg Tempura and he enjoys painting the magic of the New Mexican light from sultry summer days to the cold, barren landscapes of northern New Mexico winters. David Vega Chavez currently resides in Albuquerque. Ralph Roybal began his career in bronze sculpting as an apprentice in some of the leading bronze foundries of the southwest. It was at Santa Fe Bronze under the famous sculptor Ernest Berke that Roybal realized his potential in bronze work.
