The USF (United San Felipe) is a non-profit organization celebrating the Barrio San Felipe in Del Rio , Tx. We invite our entire community to come out and celebrate the groundbreaking of what has been months of planning and brainstorming by the USF. Val Verde County crew will be breaking the ground to build the foundation of the columns at 10:00a.m. followed by some words from USF members plus chalupas and refreshments provided by the Casa de la Cultura Thursday , October 12th. To date we have sold over 150 bricks but our goal is to sell 300 to cover some of the construction. Bricks are $100 each. For more information or to purchase a personalize brick please contact Anna Arredondo Chapman at (830) 719 1948 or Eloy Padilla at (830) 719 0926. Andy Porras, initiator of the project, said in a statement that the “Barrio San Felipe Arch is a bold architectural statement of genuine civic pride … The arch will be a lively public space reaffirming that civic enlightenment can come from the free exchange of creative ideas from former and current Del Rio residents.” Porras further stated that by honoring the historic site that gave birth to Del Rio, those supporting the construction are affording the entire area an attraction sure to be visitor-worthy. “USF believes the arch will evolve into a sense of place with a fundamental value to all area residents, regardless of age and from every neighborhood and every culture. "My work straddles between the concepts of representation and abstraction. Through these ideas, the canvas speaks to different people in different ways. I am fascinated by iconic people and symbols of different generations throughout the past and present and how they evoke different meanings in different people." - Emmanuel Rangel Join us this Friday at the Casa de la Cultura for First Friday Art Walk 7-10p.m. featuring Emmanuel SA Artist
