The Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department is located approximately 50 miles east of New York City on Long Island and responds to over 3,000 calls per year. We are located approximately 50 minutes east of New York City. We are 4 ½ square miles in size comprised of 60% residential dwellings and 40% industrial and commercial buildings. We respond to approximately 3,000 calls for help each year for fire and medical emergencies combined.  Running through our response area is the Mainline of the Long Island Railroad Ronkonkoma Branch and Route 231 (Deer Park Avenue) - a four lane State Road. Our Department consists of approximately 120 active members, both male and female. We are a combination department meaning that we have a career emergency medical staff of advanced life support providers that work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; in addition to our volunteer firefighters and emergency medical service providers.

Several members of the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department participated in a ceremony honoring first responders prior to the NFL game on 11/2/17 between the New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills. Representing the department were Chris Schiavo, Jamie Mare, Mike Merkle and Tom Goemans.

The Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of people trapped in cars due to flooding near the intersection of Commack Road and Long Island Avenue during the torrential rains on the evening of 10/24/17. Responding members found multiple victims in several cars unable to move due to rising water. The DPFD used one of its apparatus generally used for brush fires since it has a higher base and also provides space to transport those trapped. The training and professionalism of our members once again resolved a dangerous situation requiring expeditious action.

The Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire on E. 3rd St. shortly after 8:00 PM on 10/12/17. Upon arrival, members encountered a basement fire which was extinguished due to an aggressive attack thereby minimizing damage to the rest of the house. Less than two (2) hours later, members responded to a chimney fire on Dahlia Lane. The professionalism of our members quickly resolved the situation. Both incidents were under the command of 1st Assistant Chief Scarfi and thanks is given to our neighbors in North Babylon and West Islip for their assistance and coverage on the first alarm.

The Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire at a laundromat in a strip mall on Long Island Avenue on 10/6/17. An aggressive interior attack minimized damage and prevented extension to other businesses. Special thanks to the mutual aid provided by the Dix Hills, North Babylon, Brentwood and West Islip departments and also by the Wyandanch-Wheatley Heights Ambulance.

The Chiefs, officers and members of the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department extend prayers and condolences to our brothers and sisters in the Wyandanch Volunteer Fire Company on the sudden passing of Mike "Pyro" Descalso.

The Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported collision between a vehicle and a train on 9/18/17. Upon arrival, the vehicle was found broken apart and involved in fire. The driver of the vehicle had been ejected and his body was recovered and pronounced at the scene. There were no reported injuries on the train.

The Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department responded to an alarm for an injured hiker in the Edgewood Preserve on 9/17/17 shortly after 6:00 PM. Unfortunately, the caller was not able to report an exact location within the combine. The DPFD, under the command of 1st Assistant Chief Philip Scarfi, deployed two ATVs to locate the injured party. As nightfall approached, a brush truck was used to assist in the search. The injured party was eventually located and transported to the hospital. Thanks also go to SCPD units, including K-9 and Aviation, who assisted in the incident.
