The Farm Retreat at Willow Creek is a gorgeous farm in the Virginia Piedmont that does special events, corporate events and weddings. We are an agritourist destination where the beauty of the outdoors complements the specialness of your wedding day.  Begin with hayride to the outdoor chapel and a reception or cocktail party under our new Pavilion.  Sit in our "swinging pit" and roast marshmallows or laze beside the lake with a glass of wine or a fishing pole. You may even see a cow or two!

Steady rain, a sleeping labrador, a cup of hot coconut pachong tea and a chat with a friend makes me a happy camper. Hunker down if you can and enjoy the rain!

This is a photo of my favorite farmer/husband and the official greeter for Willow Creek, Lucy. Love them both!

Some people don't like mowing, but I do. Today, gorgeous blue skies with fluffy white clouds, clear clean air... I mowed. The white wild roses and honeysuckle are in bloom mingling their fragrance with the fresh mown grass...heaven...absolute heaven. If I could bottle it, I would. One of my favorite things about the spring!

I LOVE hearing from my couples after the weddings! I just heard from one who is expecting now and we couldn't be happier for them. It is just so touching that we are kept in the loop of their lives...for a little while anyway. Their successes feel a bit like our successes...like we had a small part in their victory. I'm not sure every wedding venue owner is as connected or invested in their couple's wedding day success, but it is a huge part of what brings us joy doing this work. Anyway, to all of the couples who married here and those who plan to, you mean more to us than you can know! Thank you for choosing us to be a part of your special day!

Got the first post in for The Shack...a fisher shack and hangout also useful for a changing room for the Grooms and the guys. Thought we'd be further along by now, but with all of the rain, it has been hard to get out there. Had a tree man take down a couple of trees around the Pavilion. I was holding my breath as they came tumbling down and everyone stayed safe! Most of yesterday was in clean up and getting the first post in... We're on our way AND it is gorgeous outside...the perfect day to put in a couple more though I can "feel" yesterday's work in my back and arms...whew!

Creeks are high and the flowers are coming in! We just sowed flower seed in front of our sign and the very next day, flowers were starting to come up...mostly colorful, playful zinnias. THEN, we got more rain off and on yesterday afternoon. It was starting to get dry so no complaints about rain from me! Tree men come this morning to remove a couple of trees around the Pavilion and it is back to digging postholes for Carl and myself... I hate digging postholes, but I love the end result! It looks like it is going to be a comfortable day to be working outside. Have a great weekend all!

Had a whirlwind day here yesterday! Two potential Brides visited and four Brides who needed to check us out again for specifics on their special day. It felt like an open house AND I got over 10,000 steps on my fitbit, so it was a win/win! The day started out warm, but the breezes took over and it was just glorious out here. Many of the current Brides, who will be married here, hadn't seen the place since the winter and were very, VERY happy with how things have bloomed and greened up. They were able to get a better idea of what it was going to look like on their big day. And, as dusk began to roll around, we just sat on the porch in the waning light enjoying the breezes and beauty and we felt very blessed to be able to share our little piece of paradise with people who seemed to appreciate it as much as we do.

Okay, now it is on! 90 degrees on the front porch, everything blooming and trees leafing out. I have a hard time going from 50 or 60 degrees to 90 or back down to 30...crazy times! On the other hand, it is really beautiful out here right now. The spring is one of my favorite times of year out here, though I have yet to find a bad looking season. I like the way the farm evolves with them. Anyway, enjoy your day! Me, I feel like finding a hammock under a tree somewhere...I could so take a nap!

Yesterday's wedding was so beautiful! The weather could not have been more perfect. The rain a few days ago brought out the budding lilacs and redbud and even our garden. When you work hard to put your place together and you can tell people are enjoying it, it is very satisfying and made us very happy. People were sitting at the Front Porch Firepit and on the platforms and at the decks. They were wandering up the hill for the view from there and through the green fields. It was the first time there was very little music at a wedding... Two songs. One for the processional and one later on in the day sung beautifully by a music major. They just wanted to talk and visit and enjoy each other's company with no distractions. And they did... there was much laughter, love and conversation. We had so much fun in their company too! We so appreciate this lovely group and they were so gracious and appreciative of our place and our efforts. There is great joy to be found amongst happy, loving people. A real privilege AND we got to try some authentic, homemade tamales! Yum!

Today's Bride is dressed in a gown her Mother made and it is absolutely stunning! She looks like a Princess...just gorgeous. My Mother made my gown too...out of muslin and lace and it suited me perfectly. We will be married 37 years this December so it must be a good omen!

We are getting a deluge! Hard to feel bad about it as we were a bit dry and planted part of a garden already this year. Having lived through several droughts, I don't complain about rain. Though the thunder this a.m., had Lucy jumping into my bed as she shook with fear. She HATES thunder and lightning. Between this rain and the anticipated warmer temps for the next week, everything should be lush and green for our first wedding of the year a week from tomorrow! Stay dry everyone!
