As part of National Poetry Writing Month, we’d like to introduce you to one of Covenant Village of Cromwell’s resident poets. Van Parker didn’t start writing poems until later in life, but says they have a way of opening up the world in surprising and unexpected ways. He believes poems invite feelings and imagination. Read for yourself in his poem "Rounding Third." Baseball is an unusual sport. Some find it boring. Games have no time limit. Unlike more fast- moving sports, there are plenty of pauses. Players often strike out. One hit in three trips to the plate is a very good average. But there’s something about baseball that speaks to the heart, including the word home: -home plate -home run -rounding third and heading for home. Baseball is the only game I know of where the goal is to get back to where you started.

Congratulations to Patricia Dooley (pictured top row, far left) and James Harris (pictured top row, second from left), who were recognized at the 2017 Inspiration Awards Ceremony. While at the front desk, Pat runs into a lot of unexpected challenges on a daily basis, but she always takes the initiative to quickly identify needs and offer assistance. James exemplifies the compassion and kindness that Covenant Village of Cromwell expects from every member of the staff. He is a very positive person who always wears a smile, and he is always thinking of others and anticipating their needs.
