The Navarro County Food Pantry Ministry is in emergency mode! Their shelves are empty because food has had to be sent to the disaster areas after the hurricane. We are asking for you to once again give food. You may bring it to the church or take it directly to the Food Pantry. Deliveries will be made as soon as they are left at the church. Jane Ray will shop for you if you are unable to shop. This is of great importance. These are the food items they really need: soup mac and cheese mixed vegetables tomato sauce rice beans corn tuna chili meat (and of course money!)

With all of the prayers and conversations that have been taking place in regards to our friends who have evacuated portions of Texas due to Harvey, and have thus made it to Navarro County, this information was just released from our Mayor Don Denbow: “City staff has coordinated with the Salvation Army regarding items needed for the hurricane victims. Ten families were helped yesterday. They were allowed to shop in the Salvation Army store for items needed at no cost. These are families staying in local hotels. For now, FEMA is providing vouchers for the evacuees to use for food and hotels. In response to this need, the Salvation Army, Collin Street Bakery, and the City of Corsicana will set up a consolidated donation and assistance center at the Collin Street Bakery I-45 location. In addition to donations, evacuees and first responders may stop for assistance and information. Donations will be accepted from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday beginning Thursday August 31 until further notice. Sgt. Toby Romack with the Salvation Army has indicated evacuees will need clothing, non-perishable food, water, baby items, baby formula, and hygiene products. Donations needed for the Houston area are basic medical supplies, nonperishable food, blankets, cleaning supplies, brooms, mops, buckets, baby clothes, baby wipes, diapers, adult clothing, and children clothing items. Money or gift cards can be donated to the Salvation Army and designated to go to Hurricane Harvey relief. Sgt. Romack will be going to the flood area next week to deliver supplies. The Salvation Army will be placing Red Kettle buckets at locations for anyone to drop off donations at businesses around town. These buckets will be designated for Hurricane Harvey. Any business that would like a bucket to be placed to collect donations can call the Salvation Army. The local Salvation Army office can be contacted at 903-874-7131 and is located at 212 E. 1st Avenue.” Along with this, the city is asking for volunteers to staff 4-hour shifts at Collins Street Bakery to receive the donations, beginning Thursday, August 31st at 8:00 a.m. About 20 volunteers are needed through the weekend. If you or someone you know or in your network/church/organization can help staff the donation and assistance center, please contact Councilwoman Susan Hale at halemary100@gmail.com. Grace and Peace, Steven
