Dealing with the aftermath of last weekend's blizzard didn't stop Local 430 from having an info fair at Sagamore Children's Psychiatric Center, today. Members who attended were treated to breakfast and lunch. They also had accessibility to vendors, all of whom were ready and willing to answer any questions. Any member that couldn't attend will be sorry they missed it.

Local 881's board members met with Senator Michael Venditto to discuss issues effecting members in their local. The Senator is running for another term and the board wants to be sure that he will be a supporter of union interests.
City of Long Beach Member Meeting
There was a huge turn out at The City of Long Beach Unit member meeting, today. Members were addressed by Unit President, John Mooney; Local President, John Shepherd and Region One President, Nick LaMorte. Special awards were given to select members, as well: Patty Salerno from Pd for Employee of the Year, inside; Warren Molzon for Employee of the Year, outside and Chris Windle for CSEA officer of the year. There were also a few vendors at the meeting who made themselves available to answer member's questions. In short, it was a well attended, highly informative meeting.

Everyone likes music, right? How about a concert? Well a great concert for a great cause is coming up on February 21st. The AMT Children of Hope Foundation/Baby Safe Haven is throwing a "Harmony for Hope" concert to support their organization. The foundation is dedicated to rescuing children throughout the United States from abandonment. Lead by retired CSEA activist, Tim Jaccard they have rescued more than 3,000 children. You won't regret throwing your support towards a cause as worthy as this one.
The Baldwin UFSD Special Education Aides Unit decided to do a little something different and celebrate their members after the holidays. They recently held a post holiday get together for their unit members, thanking them for a year of union activism. The Unit President, Angela Gallagher; Vice-President, Angela Lucas and the rest of the unit's board members were all in attendance.

It was a crowded house at Region One Headquarters, Saturday. A retirement seminar was held to assist all members that are considering retiring in the near future. Attendees had the chance to ask questions about benefits and were able to seek advice on how to best plan for their future.
The 22nd Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Luncheon
Local 830's Unity Committee recently held its 22nd Annual MLK Ceremony Luncheon. The event is meant to celebrate the legacy of Dr. King through the celebration of the humanitarian efforts of people in the community. Region One President, Nick LaMorte was honored to receive a special commendation at the ceremony. Several other awards were given to community activists, as well.There were also academic scholarships presented to three deserving young women. The luncheon was the perfect way to honor MLK's memory.
Local 870 Constitutional Executive Board Meeting
Local 870 had a Constitutional Executive Board Meeting, over the weekend. They gathered together to discuss strategies for member engagement, Strong Communities Work and how the Supreme Court's hearing of the Friedrichs case can effect CSEA. Region One President, Nick LaMorte; Local President, Maria Navarro and Region One Director, Ron King were there to help inform members.
