Priam Vineyards
Description
The First Solar Powered Winery in New England Priam Vineyards was founded in 1998 in Colchester, CT by Gloria Priam and Gary Crump, opening the winery in April of 2003. In 2010 the winery completed a solar panel installation making it the first winery in New England to be completely solar powered.
The winery has won numerous International wine medals, producing wines in the style of Northern France and Germany. Priam Vineyards’ 40 acre farm sits in the Salmon River Watershed, with 23 acres of vineyard where they practice sustainable agriculture and energy. They grow classic European varietals: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay, Riesling, Muscat, and Merlot as well as American hybrids: Cayuga and St. Croix. The rich gravelly soil, sloping hillside and constant breeze provide the perfect climate for these varietals.
