COATESVILLE >> Residents will soon have a new café to visit when they need to fuel up with coffee or tea.

Fuel City Café is set to open at 247 East Lincoln Highway within the next couple of weeks.

The café was started by couple Nicole Catanese and David Long, who live in the Coatesville area.

Catanese said they had wanted to start their own business for a long time, and now they were finally able to make it happen.

Long said they wanted to be their own bosses, and thanks to money earned from a separate business venture of his, they could make their dream come true.

Long is also the president of East Coast distribution for Dragon Box, a streaming media device.

He said keeping the community in mind was an important part of the decision to open a café in Coatesville, and he hopes that the opening of Fuel City will encourage others to invest in the city’s downtown and go toward revitalizing some of the economic activity that the city had 20 or 30 years ago.

Fuel City’s motto is “café, coffee, and community,” to bring the community together, he said.

Long said he also had a personal motivation for opening the café because in the 12 years he’s been in the Coatesville area, he’s had to drive six miles each way to get a good cup of coffee.

“We felt as though this would be a great business for us to start and get some real good coffee in the community, rather than just some market coffee or convenient store coffee,” Long said.

He said all of their coffee comes from Golden Valley Farms in West Goshen.

“We decided to go local, giving back to the Chester County business market,” Long said.

Catanese said all of the coffee is USDA organic, which is another reason they decided to go with Golden Valley Farms’ coffee.

She said she and Long purchased a cappuccino and espresso maker straight from Italy to be able to provide customers with gourmet beverages, such as cappuccinos, espressos and lattes.

All of the beverages will be made-to-order, except for the coffee, which will be located at a serving station, Catanese said.

She said Fuel City will also serve freshly brewed iced tea, smoothies, iced coffee, frozen cappuccinos, as well as pastries, soups, sandwiches and some seasonal offerings.

Catanese said in addition to serving coffee to people in Coatesville, a big aspect of Fuel City is to provide a space for people who work in Coatesville so they can meet up, work on things online or just relax. Free Wi-Fi will be offered to customers, she added.

She said Fuel City’s normal hours will be from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every day of the week, but they will also be hosting some after-hours events, such as open mic nights and painting classes.

Catanese said the painting classes would be directed by local artist Kelly Hewson, who also has several paintings hanging on the walls of Fuel City.
