The National Debutante Cotillion and Thanksgiving Ball is an annual formal debutante presentation of young ladies held in the Nation's capital. The National Debutante Cotillion and Thanksgiving Ball of Washington, D.C. is an annual dance and formal debutante presentation of young ladies held in the Nation's capital. Young women from throughout the nation and from foreign countries travel to Washington to be presented. Today's debutante is a mature, active and involved young woman, striving for success in college and a chosen career. There is not set age for presentation but most young ladies range from seniors in high school to seniors in college.
The Cotillion was founded in 1950 by Miss Mary-Stuart Montague Price, daughter of Captain Allen Ingram Price, U.S. Naval Academy Class of 1917. Miss Price, affectionately known as "Studie", and Miss Elizabeth Allison Stuart, are co-chairmen of the event, which benefits the Children's National Medical Center.
Regional Chairmen from many states including California, Ohio ,New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia recommend young ladies and their families for participation.
The 62nd National Debutante Cotillion will be held the day after Thanksgiving, November 25, 2011, at the Washington Hilton and Towers. In addition to the formal white tie presentation ball, Thanksgiving week is filled with a host of special events for the debutantes and their families.
