Catch the CAT, and let us provide the ride. Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) provides bus service to the greater Charlottesville area. Riders enjoy safe, clean, and comfortable service Monday through Sunday.

The Downtown Transit Station's hours are from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday through Saturday, and from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sundays.

A road closure tomorrow will prevent the Free Trolley from serving bus stops on McCormick Rd from the McCormick bridge to University Ave. Instead, the route will turn down the McCormick Rd ramp and turn left onto Emmet St. From Emmet St, the bus will turn right onto University Ave where it will resume its normal alignment. The detour will last all day.

Due to anticipated congestion around Scott Stadium for the Concert for Charlottesville on Sunday, 9/24, the Free Trolley will detour from 3:30 PM until the end of service. Bus stops along Maury Avenue, Alderman Road, McCormick Rd, and portions of Jefferson Park Avenue will not be served. Instead, the route will use Jefferson Park Avenue to reach Emmet Street where it will travel north until it reaches University Avenue. Passengers who are trying to reach Scott Stadium should use either the Jefferson Park Avenue @ Cabell Hall bus stop (#11155) or the Emmet Street @ the Central Grounds Parking Garage bus stop (#10472).

Due to UVA's game against UConn tomorrow, 9/16, the Free Trolley will not serve bus stops along Maury Avenue, Alderman Road, McCormick Road, and portions of Jefferson Park Avenue. Instead, the route will travel up Emmet Street to University Avenue. The detour will begin at 9:00 AM and last until two hours post game. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 PM. Passengers who are trying to reach the stadium should use either the JPA @ Cabell Hall bus stop (#11155) or the Emmet St @ the Central Grounds Parking Garage bus stop (#10472).

We're excited to announce that University of Virginia Football Fans can ride Route 7 fare-free to and from Saturday's game. Passengers who have a current UVA game day ticket can ride for free three hours before kickoff and up to two hours post game. To ride, passengers much show the driver their ticket. Free rides are only eligible on Route 7.

This Friday and Saturday (8/18 - 8/19), UVA move-in will prevent the Free Trolley from serving McCormick Rd and the Aquatic & Fitness Center (AFC) on Alderman Road from service startup until 8 PM. Instead, the route will use Whitehead Rd, Stadium Rd, and Emmet St to reach University Blvd. A temporary bus stop will be installed along Whitehead Rd (in between Scott Stadium and the AFC). This stop will act as a time point. Trolleys departing this stop will leave five minute earlier than the published Chapel times in the Rider's Guide.

Update 1:34 PM - With the exception of the 2nd St Mall Crossing, regular service has resumed around the Downtown Mall. The Free Trolley will use Ridge McIntire Rd to reach Market St. Thanks for your patience. Update 1:30 PM - Regular service has resumed around the Downtown Mall. Thanks for your patience. Update 1:08 PM - Service is expected to return to normal at 1:30 PM. Update 12:24 PM - Our buses are temporarily detouring Market St and Water St. The DTS is not being served. We will resume service when possible. 10:40 AM - We are actively detouring our buses around Market St in the downtown vicinity. We will resume service when possible. Detours for the affected routes are as follows: Free Trolley - Instead of crossing the mall on 2nd Street, the Free Trolley will turn right off of West Main Street onto Ridge Street. From Ridge Street, the route will turn left onto Monticello Avenue, left onto Avon Street, and right onto East Market Street where it will resume its normal route. Route 1 - Instead of traveling on Ridge McIntire Road and Market Street when returning from PVCC, Route 1 will turn right off of Monticello Avenue onto Avon Street. From Avon Street, the route will continue straight onto E High St where it will resume its normal route. Route 3 - Instead of traveling on Ridge McIntire Road and Market Street when returning from Southwood, Route 3 will turn right off of Ridge Street onto Monticello Avenue. From Monticello Avenue, the route will turn left onto Avon Street and right onto Hinton Avenue where it will resume its normal route. Route 4 - Instead of traveling on Ridge McIntire Road when returning from the UVA Hospital, Route 4 will turn right off of Ridge Street onto Monticello Avenue. From Monticello Avenue, the route will turn left onto Avon Street and right onto East Market Street where it will resume its normal route. Route 6 - When leaving Crescent Hall on the inbound trip towards the Downtown Transit Station, Route 6 will turn right onto Monticello Avenue, left onto Avon Street, and right onto East Market Street where it will resume its normal route. Route 7 - Instead of using Ridge McIntire Road and Market Street when returning downtown, Route 7 will turn right off of West Main Street onto Ridge Street. From Ridge Street, the route will turn left onto Monticello Avenue, left onto Avon Street, and right onto East Market Street where it will resume its normal route. Route 8 - Instead of using Market Street on the inbound trip towards the Downtown Transit Station, Route 8 will turn right onto Ridge McIntire Road, left onto Monticello Avenue, left onto Avon Street, and right onto East Market Street where it will resume its normal route. Route 9 - Instead of using Ridge McIntire Road and Market Street when returning downtown, Route 9 will turn right off of West Main Street onto Ridge Street. From Ridge Street, the route will turn left onto Monticello Avenue, left onto Avon Street, and right onto East Market Street where it will resume its normal route. In addition, the route will not serve the YMCA. Route 10 - Instead of using Ridge McIntire Road and Market Street when departing the Downtown Transit Station, Route 10 will turn left onto Ridge Street, left onto Monticello Avenue, and left onto Avon Street where it will resume its normal route. Route 11 - Instead of using Ridge McIntire Road and Market Street when departing the Downtown Transit Station, Route 11 will turn left onto Ridge Street, left onto Monticello Avenue, and left onto Avon Street where it will resume its normal route.
