When you're walking through Australia, try not to disturb this nesting carpet python on exhibit! The female will incubate her eggs by remaining coiled around them and shivering to generate heat. The incubation period for carpet pythons is approximately 50 - 55 days. Photo by: Clint Guadiana #GPZOO

It's #NationalDogDay! African wild dogs's Latin name, Lycaon pictus, literally translates to "painted wolf". Covered in black, brown and white markings, no two dogs will ever look alike. They live in packs of two of more and unlike domestic dogs, their vocalizations vary widely. Their large rounded ears act as satellites, helping them to hear not only other pack members from large distances but also potential prey or threats. The African wild dogs are listed as endangered due to loss of habitat and their susceptibility to diseases spread by domestic animals. As human populations continue to grow, so will the threats to these dogs' populations. #GPZOO #wilddogs
