The Washington Youth Academy Foundation in partnership with Seeds of Grace has provided $6,000 to fund a raised bed garden space at the Washington Youth Academy. The WYA Foundation is providing materials, tools and garden soil for thirty-six raised beds at the Academy. The cadets will build the beds and plant the seeds to start a sustainable organic garden raising vegetables that will be used for cadet meals. In addition, twelve of the beds will raise fresh organic vegetables for local food banks. The cadets will learn skills about organic gardening and composting. Compost will be generated from the cadet dining facility. Deputy Director Amy Steinhilber said, “We are grateful for the Youth Academy Foundation for their support of the Academy programs and Cadets. This project will teach valuable science, technical and vocational skills and provide a rewarding opportunity for service to our community.”
