Message from Margaret Zoller Booth, Dean of the BGSU Graduate College: We were deeply saddened to learn that Solmaz Sedghi Elherd, 39, a second-year graduate student in the Master of Cross-Cultural and International Education (MACIE) program, passed away Sunday morning, Aug. 20, at the University of Michigan Hospital. She had been ill since July. We knew her as a brilliant, ambitious student and a kind and gentle soul. I first knew Solmaz when teaching her in my Comparative Education class last fall. She was deeply involved in her studies and as a graduate assistant played an important role in organizing the visit of the Mandela-Washington Young African Leaders to BGSU this summer. She will be dearly missed by her friends and family here, in Canada, and in her home country of Iran, where her family is arranging her funeral. A memorial service is being planned on the BGSU campus at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, in 201 Bowen-Thompson Student Union. If you would like to express your condolences to Solmaz's family, please send them to sympathy@bgsu.edu, and we will deliver them. Counselors are available to help the campus community cope with this loss. The BGSU Counseling Center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, or can be reached by phone at 419-372-2081.
