Three Westwood Middle School students are the first round winners in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest. President Lion Jim Kugler from the Spring Lake Park Lions Club and Peace Poster Contest coordinator Lion Jan Kugler came to Westwood Middle School on November 10th to meet with, thank, and present prizes to the school's three local winners of the Lions International Peace Poster Contest. The Peace Poster Contest is an international contest that encourages children ages 11 to 13 to creatively express what peace means to them. Ishmael Kesselly took first place and won $100. Second place winners were tied! Alexandra Larkin and Preston Nguyen each received $50. Spring Lake Lion members, who served as judges, evaluated 25 posters on originality, artistic merit, and expression of the theme. The contest theme this year was "The Future of Peace." It is obvious that these young people have a strong idea about what peace means to them. The first place winner of our local contest will advance to the five-county competition, with the possibility of advancing to the multi-state and world competition. Way to go Westwood students! #SLPPantherProud
