The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine is a four-year osteopathic medical school offering the degree of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.). The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM), formally named the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, is a private, non-profit osteopathic medical school with two campuses: the Virginia Campus (VCOM-VC) located in Blacksburg, Virginia and the Carolinas Campus (VCOM-CC) located in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The Virginia Campus is located in the Corporate Research Center of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. The school is one of 26 colleges of osteopathic medicine in the United States, and one of four located in the Appalachian Region.

The Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) hosted s'mores on the VCOM patio -- it was a yummy and relaxing way to welcome the perfect fall weather in Blacksburg!
Our first-and second-year students got in the spooky spirit today with the Halloween Costume Contest judged by Dean Willcox! There were lots of creative entries with "Strep B" taking the top prize. Happy Halloween!
VCOM took part in the Roanoke and New River Valley HeartChase events helping to raise money for The American Heart Association. VCOM had 24 teams with 102 registered members and raised $4,920 at the NRV HeartChase alone!

VCOM faculty and staff gathered at lunch to learn to relax through Chair Yoga, in a class led by Peggy Bowden of In Balance Yoga in Blacksburg. True to the osteopathic tenet of Mind, Body and Spirit, we all learned to relax through better breathing and simple yoga movements. Hospital Day 2017 was a success! Third-year students met with representatives from prospective clinical sites to talk about possible post-graduation plans.
Just in time for Halloween, "Frankenstein: Penetrating the Secrets of Nature," a traveling exhibit from the National Institute for Health will be on display in the main VCOM library until November 4, 2017. This display explores the medical advances of the early 1800s and how it relates to Mary Shelley’s novel. Be sure to stop by and take a look!
