Hannah bought the Seinfeld chart poster "for myself" because "I really want it and because I love Seinfeld." That there is a girl you marry. Lexie on the left is one of Hannah's besties but has never seen Seinfeld except for about 6 minutes of an episode while stuck somewhere in Maine last year. "But," she said in redeeming fashion, "I'm open to watching it." Hannah's favorite ancillary Seinfeld character is Frank Costanza -- or George's dad -- for one because of the Festivus episode and two because "I love that he's always yelling." Kulk said that Frank and Estelle Costanza could have been based on his parents, to a T, a big scary T. Her favorite episode is The Contest and she didn't think The Finale was as awful as most make it out to be. Kulk loves the final episode -- in fact it might be top 3 in his book behind the Merv Griffin soundstage and The Opera. Want to know what's crazier than Crazy Joe Davola? Kulk and Hannah talked for a good long time back in December of '14 and he wrote about it yet had no idea when they talked today. He'll understand if she airs a grievance against him this Festivus.

5/20/seventeen One way or the other it all comes back around, and sometimes twice in 17 minutes. Jake and Tiffany walked into Fiddlehead the other day at 10:50 in the morning. She was breastfeeding little Merric, 4 months old. Kulk knew she looked familiar and after a few cues he found the photo from June of '14. Seems like just yesterday. They all got to talking the other day and Tiffany gushed over what a "happy kid" Merric is so far while Jake talked about swimming records he and teammates set years ago at the local high school ... and one of them still stands, the 200 medley relay, 1:55.09 set in 2006, and the quartet was Zach LeBarren (freestyle), Justin Churchill (butterfly), Jake Dunican (backstroke), and Robert Kinney (breaststroke). Tiffany is a multi-media artist whose work you can see here: http://tdunican33.wixsite.com/tdunican A few minutes later, David and Amy walked in and it was like deja vu all over again when David asked Kulk if he's "Counter Boy" -- yes, but now just Kulk -- and one thing led to another and lo and behold David and Amy are Alice's parents. And here we go. Alice came to Fiddlehead 4 years ago, August of '13, on a pitstop from Media Pee-ay to Montreal. She and Kulk talked a good long time. She's got one the greatest smiles on the planet and probably the greatest set of teeth. She bought a raku pottery skull cuz the chick digs skulls. Turns out she's an artist too and David and Amy showed Kulk a funky good painting she did of Sinatra. She loves recreating celebrities on canvas and putting her own artistic touch on them. Her dad is an artist too who weaves rugs and tapestries. Happy Saturday! It's turning into the most beautiful day of the year so take a day-trip into Downtown Bennington. We're not that far away.

5/19/17 "Where ya coming from?" "Barbados." "Wait, THE Barbados? The island?" Yes and Yes. And the longer Kulk and Deborah talked the more he began to hear the accent, like when she pronounced "friends" as "frainds". She's a Bajan and lives in James Parish. Her American mom met her Bajan dad at Farmingdale State College when he studied AC and refrigeration. They married and made a life in Barbados which Deborah described as "beautiful beaches, white sand, and turquoise water" ... it's the perfect place, she said "if you're into water sports or drinking." This is Deborah's 7th time to Vermont but first time in the southern half. She made Fiddlehead her first stop yesterday. Kulk recommended several places to eat great food such as Allegro Ristorante, Kevin's Sports Pub & Restaurant, The Publyk House, and Pangaea. She bought this shot glass with a frog. Barbados doesn't have its own language but does have that accent. Just ask Kermit.

She came in yesterday to buy gifts for friends and got them these blown glass shots, one with a frog, the other a lizard. She's an artist too who makes adorable little animal trinkets out of polymer clay so Kulk said to formally introduce herself via email and let's see what happens. Then they chatted a good long while. She's Sarah Holland and Kulk asked if she's related to Phil Holland, local writer and professional voice talent. No. He asked if she's related to Kansas City Royals relief pitcher Greg Holland. No. But she's been told she's related to the guy who invented submarines. Yeah, Kulk said, and my great-great-grandfather invented, you know, water. She smirked. He smirked. But submarines, he said, have only been around a 100 or so years so I can see you being related to him. Per Wiki, John Philip Holland (Irish: Seán Pilib Ó hUallacháin/Ó Maolchalann) (24 February 1841 – 12 August 1914) was an Irish engineer who developed the first submarine to be formally commissioned by the U.S. Navy, and the first Royal Navy submarine, Holland 1. And there you have it. More to come if we start selling Sarah's trinkets. We've got many more of these frog/lizard shots. Bottoms up!

"We have 40 or 50 of his pieces." That's what Diana Babcock said 8 months ago when she bought another John DeAmicis litho-print. She told Kulk about her favorites and he wrote a story and that was that ... ... till a nicely written letter on adorable stationary arrived the other day from Center Sandwich New Hampshire. In the age of technology, writing letters is a dying art. This letter in cursive writing read: Back in September, my husband and I visited your gallery and spoke with a man who was interested in our collection of John DeAmicis' work. I promised photos of our collection. It is now May and thanks to interference by life and technology, as promised here is about 60% of what is a real treasure -- better late than never. Great gallery! The Babcocks Dianne Babcock enclosed several color photos showing John's pieces hanging above the TV and along a 20-foot and she sent John's most emotional piece titled 36/1963. 8 months later, out of the blue.

5/17/seventeen Kulk: Those glasses remind me of Sadie Stein. She writes for the Paris Review and sometimes does style pieces for the The New York Times. I may have seen her name in Popular Mechanics too. Ever hear of her? Corrinne: No but I'm always told I look like Iris Apfel. Corrinne lives in Dorset Vermont, just up the road from Bennington, but is moving to Williamstown Mass, just down the road from Bennington. Laurie is her daughter and Laurie is helping Mom make the move this week. They stopped into Fiddlehead and checked out all the spaces before paying special attention to our Banned Books exhibit. The ones that hang on hooks cost a buck. Corrinne bought Candide by Voltaire, written something like 258 years ago. It's going into her bookcase when she sets it up in Williamstown. It'll be the first banned book in the case. Laurie bought Brokeback Mountain by Annie Proulx for her daughter in L.A., where Kulk grew up, so they talked about fruits and nuts and life in the Hollywood Hills, where she lives with her husband, who is a producer for The Amazing Race TV show which Kulk has never watched and probably never will. Kulk just looked at his notes. Laurie mentioned Chateau Marmont. Definitely sounds like the type of place Sadie gets away to. And it's definitely the kind of place Iris hit up even at the sweet age of 95. We've got many more Banned Books.

5/15/seventeen Eileen's a retired nurse from Portsmouth Rhode Island and her daughter Erin graduated Southern Vermont College on Saturday with a degree in radiology. Erin loves Fiddlehead and brought her mom to the gallery for the first time because she'd love it too. Erin remembers how much her daughter loved this print by Brian Hewitt of North Bennington. It celebrates Fenway Park's Green Monster. On Mother's Day, Erin bought as a graduation gift for Erin. She's going to love it. The original oil painting from which this print was made is one of the most remarkable pieces of work you'll ever see. You can read about it as well as many other stories Kulk has written about Brian Hewitt who picked up a paintbrush for the first time in 2010. He was 47 years old. Gabriella and Samantha are twins. Lauren and Mia are twins too. All 4 girls from Troy Collar City New York are sisters. That's right, their mom had 2 sets of twins. A lot of research has shown there are at least 300 sets of twins in New York State. The chances of having a second set of twins is 1 in 70,000, per twinstwice.com: http://www.twinstwice.com/twins.html

Nancy from North Jersey, whose photographs are for sale here at Fiddlehead, came up to Bennington last week to watch a ceremony for her son Peter the baseballer, who earned the highest grade in the business class this year. Then she came to Fiddlehead to chat with Kulk and oh by the way buy a couple of the $1 books from our Banned Books display. For those who haven't read the letter Peter penned his mom last year: https://www.facebook.com/fiddlehead4corners/posts/832223966922660?match=ZmlkZGxlaGVhZCxuYW5jeSxjb3dz
