facebook.comAttention Spring Breakers: the snow party at Mt. Bachelor is in full swing! It's day 5 of snowfall and the result is breathtaking white-clad trees, trails, and surrounding mountains. Another 1-2 inches is projected today, but mainly in the afternoon and evening. This morning appears to be a reprieve with cloudy sky and a chance of sunshine. The trails are perfect packed powder and the base has taken and nice solid set. Once again, the conditions are great for all types of skiing. The full network (Uppers, Middles, and Lowers) is groomed with skate corduroy and classic tracks. The morning air temp is a brisk 18.7*, the snow temp is 22.3*, and the relative humidity is 72%. The trails are a bit squeaky from the cold night air, and it is worth taking a moment to appreciate this wintry snow sound persisting into the spring. Personally, we are giddy and glowing from some seriously good ski days lately, and we expect today to rank near the top of the list.
We just can't get enough of this late-season snow. It's reminiscent of deep winter conditions, and yet here we are at the end of March. Each day brings more cold, light powder and each night we smooth it out fresh and fun. And so the cycle continues today. 2 inches new overnight and a full network of newly groomed corduroy. An inch or so more should grace the trails over the course of the ski day with intermittent flurries projected. Winds are light and blue sky is peeking out of the clouds. Another top notch day at the mountain. The morning air temp is 20.7*, the snow temp is 24.4*, and the relative humidity is 78%. The trails are 100% open and groomed for you choice of classic or skate skiing. Classic conditions are quite superb with firm and grippy tracks throughout. The skate cord remains a touch soft, but the snow underfoot is dreamy and silky smooth. Ohh yeah! We'll see you out there.
A collective buzz of excitement and energy is pulsing around the mountain this morning as first light revealed shockingly clear and intensely blue sky following two days of non-stop snowing and blowing conditions. The general consensus is that today will be epic. We may see a few intermittent snow showers, but at the moment we are basking in the prospect of a sunny day and untracked snow in all directions. Current readings show an air temp of 19.6*, snow temp of 21.9*, and relative humidity at 80%. Wintry temps are expected to hold steady, but the sunny and windless conditions are proving quite comfortable. 12 inches of powder in 24 hours is a lot of snow to push around, pack down, and smooth out. Our Groomer was able to prep the Uppers (Green Trails) and Middles (Blue Trails) with classic tracks and skate corduroy. Unfortunately he had to drop the Lowers (Black Trails) for the day, but we are hoping to get that back mix ASAP. The trail surface is a beautifully cold and fresh packed powder. Totally primo conditions for classic skiing and velvety albeit a bit soft and punchy for skate. The mountain is back in winter wonderland mode, and it is hard to beat a day like this!
It's a snow day! Light flakes are falling fast and steady this morning. It's mesmerizing and beautiful and a sure sign that great skiing is in store. Currently the air temp measures 21.2*, the snow temp measures 23*, and relative humidity is at 80%. The temperature is expected to hover in the low-20's all day, keeping the white stuff dry and magical. It's intermittently windy in the parking lot but calm in the trees. This storm is expected to wrap up in the pre-dawn hours of Saturday morning in perfect timing for the weekend and start of Spring Break. The overnight grooming routine covered the full network of trails with skate corduroy and classic tracks. The snowfall mostly tapered off during the night leaving the trails clear of accumulations this morning, but that is sure to change shortly. We will be day grooming the Uppers, Screamer, and the abbreviated Woody's Way to Easy Back (Rabbit Ear) loop. Classes will run as scheduled. In a nutshell, there is a lot of snow projected today and unless you enjoy pushing your skate skis through powder, please opt for classic skiing from late morning onward. You won't hear any complaints from us though! Personally, we are thrilled at the prospect of hopping into our skinny skis and kicking and gliding through pillowy fresh powder. Yahoo! Smiles all around.
This morning is foggy, foggy, foggy, currently featuring a light snow shower. The snow is wet and granular--good if you like to go fast! It's 32.6* out, with a snow temperature of 31* and a relative humidity of 83%. All of our trails are groomed and set with classic track, so come on up!
This morning finds us under high cloud cover and it's lightly snowing. The trails are fast but not icy...pretty close to perfect actually. Temps are a pleasant 31* for both air and snow and RH is 82%. Our usual selection of trails is open and groomed for both skate and classic except Oli's Alley which the groomer did not get to last night. Looks like snow will be rolling into today and we expect 2-4" accumulation, with more to come as the week goes on. Skating will be better in the morning today and later this week bring out those classic skis. It's going to be beautiful up here! We're digging this slow, late trickle of winter. It's setting you up nicely to take full advantage of those spring passes - only $89! On sale April 2nd. Happy "spring" everyone. Let's ski!
We lucked out with another clear day ahead of us before the impending bout of snowy weather arrives. The latest forecasts have slowed the advance of the storm, and now show it arriving this evening and stacking up quite a few inches by the weekend. It may officially be spring today, but winter is still in full swing at the mountain. The current air temp is 24.5*, snow temp is 21.6*, and RH is 74%. A dusting of overnight snow flocked the trees, but quickly cleared out of the area. Brilliant morning sky, abundant sunshine, and a high around 30* will round out the day. The grooming roster includes fresh skate corduroy all throughout the network and classic tracks on everything but the Uppers (Green Trails), Woody's Way, and Blue Jay's. Those trails have corduroy only due to a mid-shift mechanical issue. The ski surface remains a wintry packed powder with a just a touch of transformation evident in the sunniest spots. The skiff powder last night and the upcoming snowfall will keep the groomed product in prime condition. Enjoy it while it's good!
Today looks to be a sunny start to a snowy week. Flurries are expected to arrive around closing time, and deposit fresh toppers of powder each day. But first, a calm and clear bluebird day awaits us, featuring miles of delectable Nordic terrain and plenty of fun all around. The current air temp is a brisk 21.2* and should rise to around 30* for an afternoon high. The snow temp is 20.8* and the RH is 75%. The snow surface has stayed cold enough to maintain a sweet packed powder consistency, and with new snow and cool weather in the forecast we are sitting pretty for the foreseeable future. The morning trail report includes fresh skate corduroy and classic tracks on every trail in the network. Conditions for both styles of cross country skiing are great today, so bring your favorite equipment and enjoy. Ski in your shades. Have lunch on the deck. You know the drill! See you out there.
The trees are frosted, the sky is blue, and the snow is silky. Another beautiful Sunday is upon us. It is mid-March and the mountain is still in full winter glory. We count ourselves lucky as we head out the door to enjoy this glorious, sparkling day. The current conditions are calm and clear overhead with clouds on the horizon. There is still a chance of a few snow showers today, but otherwise this latest systems is on its way out in preparation for a few sunny days. The morning air temp is 22.3* and expected to reach high 20's in the afternoon. The snow temp measures 26.4* and the relative humidity is at 78%. Steady, light snowfall yesterday deposited a nice fresh layer for the groomer to work with during the overnight hours. The product is a super smooth and creamy packed powder corduroy and a solid classic track with plenty of grip. The skiing is prime and the entire network of trails is open today; skate and classic grooming throughout. It doesn't get much better than this!
St Paddy's Day Reel. Nordic Center Staff 2018. As threatened.
Top of the mornin' Nords and Happy St Patrick's Day! We've been waiting all year for this day to give a celebratory shout out to our favorite little leprechaun, Rion O'Grady, who doubles as our head groomer and is shown here enjoying a little mischief and the fruits of his labor on an early spring day. Thank you Master Rion! Celebrate well! And to leprechauns everywhere too! While we may be wearin' the green, Mother Nature surely isn't as today dawns white on white. Steady light snow coming down atop 2" of new and a day of continued white. Pay no heed though, we're all celebrating on the inside with another color sale.. offering deeper discounts on all green (and orange) attire. Then there's the reel. (stay tuned for that one ;-)). Outside the temps are registering 23.2* air, 27.2* snow and 79% RH. The network is fully groomed for skate and classic again with packed powder and light new over the groom, depending on the time of the pass. Look for skies to remain cloudy and a high of 28*. Pretty optimal stuff. Another day to make merry and strut your colors. Enjoy. See you out there.
Looking at the sampling of our wares today, we've a mix of old and new.... NEW snowy refresh (2"), more NEW snow on the horizon, and the DEBUT of the Todd Creek Trail for 2018 (Todd Creek Trail joins Rich's Range to Lower Devecka's below the Bungalow and includes the sweetest little knoll in the network!)... And the old: a regular but welcome posting of wintertime temps (20.5* air, 21.9* snow and 74% RH), a snowy grooming report (impeccable packed powder corduroy throughout the Uppers, Middles and Lowers - all skate and classic groomed), and a roster of consistent Lodge services to complete your Friday ski day. As we head into a snow showery St Paddy's Day ( just right for leprechaun frolicking activities ;-)), we're mulling over some fun celebration plans that may or may not include a healthy dose of reels, the wearing of the green and a possible spontaneous color oriented super sale in our retail store. Might just be worth a gander. Green or no though, for today we've the makings of a great weekend gateway and invite you to enjoy a lovely winter day and some fine, fine mid-winter skiing. Whatever your fancy, we probably got it going on. See you out there.
