Beaumont Police Department was out at the Estrella Community Neighborhood Watch event today. Sharing with the neighbors about crime prevention and how important neighborhood watch is to keep our communities safe. Beaumont Police Department and Animal Care Services would like to remind our residents that our community is nestled in the foothills of the San Gorgonio Pass, making Beaumont a home to a variety of local wildlife. Before our beautiful residential communities were built; mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, rabbits, etc. made their homes here. Now we must learn to co-exist with our shared community. With some knowledge of wildlife and a little planning, we can learn to live peacefully with these native species. Animal Care Services does not provide removal of wildlife, that is the responsibility of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and generally wildlife is only removed if the animal is sick or injured. In order to avoid interactions with wildlife, be sure to keep a watchful eye on your small pets, do not leave food or water out that might attract wildlife to your property and if you encounter any wildlife in the community or at your residence it is best to keep your distance and allow those animals to move along. Pictured below is a pair of bobcat kittens that were brought into Animal Control Services earlier this week, while the concerned citizen thought they were doing the right thing by trapping them and bringing them to our offices, these kittens would be best left where they were found so that Mom could take care of her young. If you're unsure what to do when encountering species such as this, feel free to contact our Animal Control Services Department by dialing 951-769-8500.
