Elementary Band & Strings Sign Ups Attention: Parents of current 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grade students. If your child is interested in learning to play a band or string instrument during the 2017-2018 school year, they must SIGN UP NOW. The Timberlane Music Department will be holding sign-ups, this June, for students who want to be a part of Timberlane’s Elementary Music Program in the fall. (If your child already plays a band/string instrument, they are automatically signed up for the next school year.) Many of our elementary school children have never been exposed to band or string instruments before, so we have developed a "Start-Up Band & Strings Program", which helps young students decide which instrument best fits their body structure and personality. Join us at the Timberlane Performing Arts Center on ONE of the following days to try out the various instruments: Thursday, June 1st from 5:00pm to 7:00pm OR Saturday June 3rd from 8:00am to 10:00am OR Monday June 5th from 5:00pm to 7:00 pm During one of these sessions, your child will have the opportunity to try at least 3 different instruments and sign up for Timberlane’s Elementary Band or Strings Program. (There will be NO fall sign ups). Both band & string instruments are available for current 3rd & 4th graders. These instruments include oboe, flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, percussion, violin, viola or cello. Only string instruments (violin, viola & cello) are available for current 2nd graders. (Sorry, no piano or guitar offered). Experienced instrumentalists and instructors will be available to help you and your child with their decision. Once your child has chosen an instrument, you are given the opportunity to rent the instrument. If you have an instrument that is in good working condition your child may use that one. At this point your child will be eager to begin playing, so we offer “Beginner Lessons” to get him/her started. These lessons are held at the Timberlane Performing Arts Center on June 12th, 13th, 14th from 4:00 – 5:30 pm (Session I) OR 6:00 – 7:30 pm (Session II). The lessons are offered at a reduced rate of $30 for 3 lessons. This is a very exciting time for students who have an interest in playing a musical instrument and the Start-Up Program is a wonderful opportunity to try a band or string instrument. We hope you will take full advantage of the enriching and educational opportunity our music program and music in general has to offer your child. Should you have any questions please contact our TRSD Music Department Secretary, Kathleen Giacobbe, at Kathleen.Giacobbe@Timberlane.net or 603-382-6541 x3982.

Timberlane Parent Advisory Forum is pleased to announce that there will be two FREE showings of the award-winning documentary SCREENAGERS. This screening is available to parents, students (recommended for students in grade 5 and up), and community members The event will be held in the auditorium at the Timberlane Performing Arts Center, 40 Greenough Rd, Plaistow, NH on April 17, 2017 at 5pm and 7pm Filmmaker, parent, and physician Delaney Ruston reports the average child spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. This caused her to think about the friction occurring in homes and schools around negotiating screen time—friction she knew all too well. In SCREENAGERS, as with her other award-winning documentaries on mental health, Dr. Ruston probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts children and teens’ development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance. For more information please visit buff.ly/2mbnH8l. An informal question and answer session will immediately follow the documentary.
