Arkoma Public Schools supports our teachers and support staff in the work that they do educating and caring for our children. We are frustrated with the budget cuts and the inadequate pay to all of our staff. We are cognizant that each teacher and staff member has his or her own opinion about the “walk-out” that is being discussed throughout the state. Recently, we surveyed our certified staff so we could prepare for what was to come on April 2nd. Our results were that a large majority of our staff(85%) said they were not going to participate in the “walk-out”. With that information, our district has chosen to close school on April 2nd to show our support for the “walk-out”. Several of our teachers and staff members will go to the Capital that day to voice their opinions. We will be back in class on April 3rd. We cannot support closing school past that date, when such a large majority of our teachers do not want to “walk-out”. Even though the “walk-out” has a large following throughout the state, it is our job to listen to the voice of our teachers. We support the individual decisions made by our staff and will continue to do so through this difficult time. *If the State Legislature passes a bill to fund education before April 2nd, we will be session.

Girls trying out for Junior High/ High School cheer DO NOT need to pay the $50 fee on Saturday. We will take that fee at the parent meeting after we announce squads. We will post a date for that meeting some time next week.
