Historical FYI...
Rooted in historic downtown Anniston, Cheaha Brewing Company is located in the old L&N Freight Train Station built in 1885. The station, along with its formerly adjacent passenger terminal, Union Station, served several railway systems including The Anniston & Cincinnati Railroad, The Tennessee, Virginia, & Georgia Railroad, and The Louisville & Nashville Railroad, still represented fondly across the top of the building entrance.
Early restoration of the freight station carefully preserved the structure including the wall surfaces, wood transforms, roof structure, and deck. The floor system has been reconstructed and reinforced multiple times for specific purposes. Most recently, the flooring for the on-site brewery was heavily reconstructed and reinforced for the heavy equipment required for brewing fine craft beer. Much of the original flooring was salvaged to construct the bar top in the main dining area.
Textiles, pipe, cast iron, and various freight deliveries passed through the old station to help build Anniston. As a nod of appreciation, the names of several local businesses for designated freight remain on the walls of the main dining area & the brewery.
