In 2001, the building that had been used for many years as the Alameda Mortuary was purchased by Orgyen Dorje Den, a non-profit religious organization, and has since been gradually transformed into a lovely Tibetan Buddhist temple. Today the shrine is complete with statues of all sizes done in the traditional style, countless colorful ornaments, paintings, images of deities and Buddhist masters, and sacred ritual objects to enhance the blessing and beauty of the place. What was once the funeral hall is now the main temple, a sacred space for the cultivation of the two fundamental Buddhist principles of wisdom and compassion. Come and see the transformation! Intended as a non-sectarian venue welcoming the practice of all schools of dharma (the study of the Buddha's teachings), Orgyen Dorje Den is very pleased to continually host events by a number of local groups and organizations, as well as maintaining a monthly schedule of traditional Tibetan practices, teachings, and meditation classes. All activities at Orgyen Dorje Den are dedicated to the joy and prosperity of all living beings. May benefit come to all!

We have 268 goats! We went over budget, there is still time to donate if you'd like to!

Another date change but this one come with good news. The release will now certainly be on Sept 8th. We will be purchasing the goats from a different source and we will be able to buy a lot more of them!

The release is now planned for Sept. 6th because of the schedule of the farm that we are purchasing them from. Also more donations have been coming in. Thank you to everyone who has donated and supported this cause. Fingers crossed that we may be able to purchase and save more goats. If not, the funds will be saved towards next year's release. There's still time to contribute if you would like to be part of this!

HH Getse Rinpoche will be leading a life-release ceremony for goats in California. It's not too late to donate to join in his enlightened intention.

ODD will be have two events geared towards beginning buddhists and people who are interested in Tibetan Buddhism in August. August 6th, 11:00-11:45AM Tour of Orgyen Dorje Den This tour of the temple and building will include a short history as well as an explanation of the statues and other features of the shrine room, followed by a Q&A and refreshments. All are welcome to attend--bring your friends who are new to Orgyen Dorje Den! August 13th, 11:00AM-12:30PM Introduction to Tibetan Buddhism An introduction to the lineage and basic teachings of our tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, including a discussion of Buddhist ethics and an explanation of the teachings and practices which are held at Orgyen Dorje Den. Both events will be led by Ila Reitz

Vajrasattva Puja to Commemorate the 49th Day of Ven. Yangthang Rinpoche's Parinirvana Saturday, December 3, 2016 1-5 pm This Saturday marks the 49th day since the Parinirvana of Ven. Yangthang Rinpoche. On this very auspicious day, please join us at ODD for Vajrasattva puja and tsog in his honor. Plan to arrive early to prepare your tsog offerings! There will be bountiful food and drink, so early arrival will help greatly to create an organized and respectful environment during puja. Please do not park in the ODD parking lot! Parking at ODD is reserved for the lamas, tenants, essential staff only. Parking is available one block away from ODD, at the Civic Center Parking Lot. It's located at 1416 Oak St., between Central and Santa Clara Aves. Cost is only .75/hour, and is free after 5 pm.
