Amway was founded in Ada, Michigan, USA, by two lifelong friends and business partners, Jay Van Andel and Rich DeVos.They started the business in 1959 out of the basements of their homes. Rich and Jay believed owning a business allowed people to have greater control of their lives and provide better for their families. So they built Amway to make it easier for others to start and grow their own businesses. The founders’ entrepreneurial spirit continues to fuel Amway. Today, Amway is one of the largest privately held companies in the United States. It’s still family owned and run by sons of the founders.

An avid sailor, Amway Co-founder Rich DeVos saw parallels between life’s challenges and the winds encountered while sailing. He turned those observations into one of his most memorable speeches, “The Four Winds,” and used it to guide people through the challenges of running an Amway business. Like the winds, if you don’t handle issues properly, they will take you off course and derail you from your goals. As Rich says, the key is to understand them so you can anticipate and control where they take you. Use each of the four winds to your advantage! #AmwayArchives

In Rich DeVos' popular speech "The Four Winds," he compares the winds encountered while sailing to the different issues people face in life. While most winds can bring challenges, the West Wind is the best wind, gently carrying you toward your goal. Are you in a position to take advantage of it? #AmwayArchives
