Alpaca Sales, Alpaca stud services, Fleece Sales, Alpaca bespoke Shelters, Alpaca Pods and Alpaca Trekking Born Bred and Produce in Tockwith, North Yorkshire

We started with the purchase of two stud male Huacaya Alpacas in 2011 called Che and Seve.  The reason behind us buying them was because we had lost 25 free range hens to a fox.  Our herd now look after our chickens and can enjoy a truly great quality of life.  Our entire herd are sheared once a year and the fleeces are sorted by hand to ensure that only the best fine fibre (saddle) is used.  This is then hand washed, hand carded and hand spun.  Great time and care is taken to ensure as much debris is removed as possible from the fleece before hand knitting.  It is not always possible as the finer fleece the more it attracts the grass and debris and it doesn’t matter how much we keep the paddocks clean they still manage to roll in something they shouldn’t.  This is a true cottage industry and is a hands on process and we are proud to keep up the old traditions.

A big thank you to everyone who came and supported us on our tradestand at the British Alpaca National Show in Telford at the weekend. The show was organised extremely well and we would like to congratulate all the alpaca breeders who attended. A special thank you to Debbie Dann (show coordinator) who did a fantastic job! We enjoyed meeting so many new people and also met up again with existing Pod owners who have given us some excellent feedback : ) #alpacapod #llamapod #poultrypod

For those that don’t know us please let us introduce ourselves. We are a family business called Sandhills Alpacas, we are Paul who thinks he is the Boss, Maggie who is the Boss, Josh who thinks he is a Boss in training and Kelsey who is the Boss in training. We breed Alpacas and make Alpaca Pods (Shelters) please see the link below for different designs and sizes. The PODS are manufactured, designed and used by ourselves for several years and we are still using a 6-year-old pod that we take this to agriculture shows. Why use our Pods? Being an Alpaca breeder the Welfare of our animals is paramount, so the pods are designed and manufactured by ourselves taking this into account. We designed the Alpaca pods for our own herd and are now pleased to offer these for sale. Below are several points we considered whilst designing the Pods. Husbandry: They make a great area for carrying out your husbandry tasks such as feet trimming, vitamin drenches etc. we just place a hurdle at the entrance or make a catch pen in front of the pod. They can also be used as holding pens for quarantine areas. Flies: They make a great shelter’s in summer against the heat and offers a shelter against the flies. Our dark coloured Alpaca’s particularly use the shelters when the flies are out. Weather: They are design with adverse weather in mind, just place a field post at the corner of the prevailing wind and this will ensure the pods don’t twist or move. Ventilation: In the prevention of pneumonia ventilation is a very important factor for consideration, the pod is design with gaps all around the frame to give the alpacas enough ventilation even whilst in the cush position. Adaptably: Easily adaptable you can add water corner drinkers and feeding troughs keeping them off the floor adding to good biosecurity measures for your alpaca herd. By placing two rubber mats on the floor you can deep bed the Alpaca pods in winter making a great dry bedding area for them to enjoy. They can be moved to another area in a paddock or dismantled to erect somewhere further away. Appearance: The Alpacas Pods are practical and attractive. We have supplied several Alpaca Pods within the National Parks and areas of conservation. Size: We have found that always feeding the alpacas in the pod they soon learn it is a nice place to be and happily come in if required to do any husbandry tasks. We have pods for up to 8 alpacas and are currently designing a larger size which will be available soon We are more than happy to answer any questions you have. We will be attending the National Alpacas show this year with our Pod on display and welcome anyone who has any questions or specific requirements in mind. Please view our website to see the type of Pods we offer and for more information www.tockwithalpacas.com

“WOW” We are so excited to introduce Fowberry Benedict, who has been carefully selected to complement our breeding programme at Sandhills Alpacas. Benedict has a full Australian pedigree and is a super-fine son of EP Cambridge Top Account of Fowberry, who needs no introduction, but just in case you don’t know, Top Account was the 2012 British Alpaca Futurity Huacaya Herdsire Champion and out of approximately 166 progeny Top Account has 12 Supreme Champions, 44 Champions and 22 Reserve Champions. His progeny often returns spectacular fleece microns, Benedict is no exception, with an extremely soft handling, fine and uniform fleece displaying good organisation with defined crimp and above average amplitude and brightness. Benedict’s dam is one of Fowberry’s top performing females, with a sister (same dam) that was a National Colour Champion and fleece Colour Champion. Sandhills Alpacas now have some impressive females (we may be a little bias) that include Australian genetics from the famous Jolimont Conquistador, Jolimont Warrior, Jolimont Commisario, Jolimont Stephano and Purrumbete Highlander. We are so excited about our cria next year having introduced some elite new genetics already, with our favoured Australian blood lines. Benedict will add another exciting dimension to our herd advancement and we are looking forward to his progeny in 2019.
