There has been an increase in fires in the kitchen in the East of Norfolk. Since April last year, around three quarters of all house fires attended by us in the east of the county started in the kitchen and many quickly spread to cause extensive damage to other rooms. The majority of kitchen fires are easily preventable. There are two main issues, one is making sure that the kitchen is kept tidy and that flammable items such as tea towels are kept well away from hobs and ovens. The other is distractions, where people are trying to multi-task and are not paying full attention. Many have been started when people have left the kitchen unattended, including microwaves being left on for too long causing food to catch alight and hobs left on when people leave the room or kitchen surfaces being thick with grease which can catch fire. So please keep your kitchen tidy and clutter free, keep your cooker clean and in good working order, keep an eye on cooking food and always watch children and pets in the kitchen to help keep everyone safe at home. 🤗 More info on the link...

Yesterday our wholetime recruits were at Easton & Otley college learning about animal handling, as part of a course with other qualified firefighters. Approaching horses and putting harnesses on correctly, herding pigs, rounding up sheep and coralling cattle (yee haw!) 🐴🐮🐖🐑 It's very important for our recruits to learn is how to manage distressed animals in an emergency situation. The recruits thoroughly enjoyed the day and want to say a big thank you to Easton & Otley College for their hospitality.
