History of Sally Pussey's Inn:
Sally was a stern landlady who's real name was Sarah Purse, today Sarah's name is a colloquial rendition of her original.
The Purse family kept the pub from at least 1841 until 1885 and it was then known as The Wheatsheaf which formed part of the Bolingbroke estate which also included Lydiard House. Its address is Wick Field, but today the greatly expanded town of Wootton Bassett has crept almost up to the Sally Pussey's doorstep inviting us as a local restaurant within the area.
Arkell's bought the pub in 1906, but it wasn't until the 1970s that it was renamed in honour of its former keeper.
Extended in 1974 and completely refurbished in 2004, the pub today has a distinctly contemporary feel with a particular emphasis on serving locally sourced good quality pub food.
