Top 6 Reasons to Splurge on a Stay at the Grand Floridian The “Flagship” Resort. That in itself tells you a little something about what to expect when you stay at the Grand Floridian, already your expectations are higher. I have wanted to stay at the Grand for years. Ever since the Full House crew stayed there on the House Meets the Mouse episodes it has been on my wish list (or Disney Bucket List as the case may be). It has always seemed like a luxurious and relaxing resort to me. I know that a lot of people shy away from this resort feeling it is more formal, too “stuffy” or that they would feel out of place. I wondered if I might feel the same way, but once we arrived and I was an actual guest of the resort I never got that feeling, it was magical! So, why should you splurge to stay at the Grand Floridian? Here are my top 6 reasons: 6. Recreation You have a lot of opportunities at the resort for fun at the Grand Floridian. Let’s start with the obvious pools. There are two big pools at the Grand, one in the courtyard and one by the beach. The beach pool has an adjacent splash pad & play area themed to Alice in Wonderland and perfect for little ones. The pool itself is zero entry which I love, has a great slide (according to my daughter ) and is in a beautiful location just off the beach for parents to enjoy. Aside from the standard Disney options like the arcade and movie under the stars, the Grand offers much more. You can rent a boat from the marina to cruise the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake( Extra cost to this) Private fireworks cruises also depart from that marina (you should reserve those ahead of time)—even the Grand 1 Yacht is parked right there ready to be chartered (and most nights we saw it go out and come back from our balcony). The marina is also host to the Pirate Adventure cruise for kids ages 4-12, and while you don’t have to be staying there for your child to take part, it does make it very convenient. If you are a golfer Disney’s Palm & Magnolia courses are just across the way. So much to do—so little time! 5. Room Size & Décor As a family of 3 and a wheel chair still trying to stay in one room, size matters to us. The rooms at the Grand Floridian are large. Depending on the room category you book and specific room you are assigned you may have a different layout, but they all feel spacious, and well grand. There is a dressing/vanity area where we had 2 sinks, a large separate bathroom area, and the room itself had 2 queen beds, a day bed, a chair, and a desk with chair. On our full balcony we had a couple of chairs and a small table. The rooms were recently refurbished and the décor is now very clean, simple elegance feeling to me. It is luxurious and fits the resort, but is no longer the over the top floral that characterized the resort since it opened. One other thing worth noting . . .because I am a Disney toiletry hoarder . . .the Grand Floridian has the best toiletries of any resort that include a foot cream and a solar gel perfect to use after being on your feel all day. 4. Atmosphere As I mentioned, some fear it might feel stuffy or formal, but I did not get that vibe at all. To me it felt fancy but in a relaxing, pampering kind of way. Entering the main building the lobby is impressive with the high ceiling, humongous chandeliers, and decor. But it is all comfortable to me—who can resist a bird cage elevator? Adding to the atmosphere you have the lobby pianist, and in the evenings the Grand Floridian Lobby Society Orchestra. You just can’t beat coming into the lobby from the monorail after a day in the parks and hearing Disney classics being played by live musicians. You want to just have a seat and stay a while. It's fit for a prince! May that's why prince Harry stays there. The resort grounds are well kept, beautifully landscaped and has a relaxing feeling of vacation and a slower pace of life. The individual buildings with the guest rooms are like miniature versions of the main building—with an open lobby and rooms around it. All of this makes for a pleasing resort atmosphere. There is a character meal for kids to enjoy. 3. On-Site Amenities I often say that Walt Disney World visitors don’t take enough time to enjoy their resort, and if you are splurging for the Grand you definitely want to schedule resort time. In the lobby you can find multiple shops—and not just the generic Disney merchandise. There is a shop featuring women’s fashions and resort wear (many brand names) as well as a counterpart for men. My favorite may be the Basin shop, grab a bath bomb and take a relaxing bath after a day of theme park trekking. If the Basin bath bomb isn’t enough pampering there is a fantastic spa right on site offering a variety of services. Not to mention the Ivy Trellis salon if you need your hair cut or styled. The Grand has a huge concentration of very good restaurants. If you are looking for character dining 1900 Park Fare is a great choice for breakfast or dinner—and you never have to leave your resort. The Grand Floridian Café offers casual dining. And if you want a nice, signature dinner Narcoossee’s and Citricos are right there. Then there is the culinary experience that is Victoria & Albert’s. If you want something a little lighter you can enjoy the Garden View Tea Room in the afternoons, or visit one of the lounges. 2. Service As the flagship resort you expect to receive a high level of service at the Grand Floridian, and you absolutely do. From the moment you pull up through the check-in process it feels very individualized. All of the hotel staff we encountered were over the top Disney service—we noticed it and appreciated it. From little touches like the mousekeeping staff carrying the towels, etc. in baskets through the halls of the guest room buildings to the fantastic greeter Richard, everything they do makes you feel welcome and appreciated. And, each night we received turn down service with chocolates—we sure missed that after we came home. Although overall Disney service is wonderful, I think it shines at the Grand Floridian. 1. Location, Location, Location Just like in home you pay for a fabulous location. All of the monorail resorts have that in spades, but the Grand Floridian’s convenience of being 1 monorail stop from the Magic Kingdom really spoils you. One afternoon I left my family of men/boys in the room, hopped on the monorail and over to Magic Kingdom just to go to the Jewelry shop. I was back in less than an hour & I took my time shopping. With monorail and boat service to the Magic Kingdom it is just so convenient. If you plan on spending a lot of time at the Magic Kingdom it is so worth it to stay here. Take the monorail to the TTC and transfer for Epcot—such an enjoyable commute. And a beautiful location on the shores of Seven Seas Lagoon. Your room view might be of the beautiful grounds, the Seven Seas Lagoon, the marina (with the monorail going by in the background—which is what we had & loved), or a view of the Magic Kingdom. From various points at the resort you can watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks and the Electrical Water Pageant.

Disney has announced big changes and updated theming to the DVC villas area at Wilderness Lodge. The villas are now called Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. The area will support the railroad theming for the resort common in the Pacific Northwest. There isn’t just a name change, though. There are also new exciting amenities coming, too. The Hidden Springs Pool are is being refurbished to have the feel of an abandoned rock quarry. The changes are expected to be complete in summer of 2017 and ready for guests to enjoy. Not only will the pool be changing, but a new bar & grill as well as a quick-service restaurant. Geyser Point Bar & Grill will be added to the pool area to serve guests. It will offer menu items that match the theme. We are excited to see what the menu will be. We will keep you posted on more announcements related to this exciting change at this beloved Walt Disney World resort. Below is our fantastic article 8 Secrets Most People Don’t Know About Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Disney’s Wilderness Lodge celebrates America’s Great Northwest. You will feel like you’re visiting the great outdoors, even when you’re inside this Deluxe Resort. If you’ve never stopped by, plan on making it part of your next Walt Disney World vacation, even if you’re staying elsewhere. Here are eight things that you might not know about this magnificent property. Note: Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is currently undergoing refurbishment. While the property is open, some aspects may not be available. The refurbishment is scheduled to be complete in 2017. 8. Dining Disney’s Wilderness Lodge has diverse dining options. Two deserve special mention here. Artist Point is a signature restaurant that features the tastes of the Pacific Northwest. There is an award winning wine list and a dress code. Artist Point is perfect for a romantic adult meal. Whispering Canyon Cafe, on the other hand, is loud and active. There’s lots of horsing around, and plenty of food. The staff has as great a time as the diners do. One warning, don’t ask for ketchup unless you really like ketchup. 7. Lobby The lobby of Disney’s Wilderness Resort is spectacular. It’s eight stories high. The non-weight bearing wood is mostly lodgepole pine from a standing dead forest in Oregon. Parts of the floors are hardwood as well, and celebrate the Native American story of creation. You also won’t be able to miss the fireplace. It’s 82 feet high, and features a stone hearth that mimics the rock formations of the Grand Canyon. 6. Totem Poles Worth special mention in the lobby are the totem poles. There are two of them, and they are each 55 feet high. They took over a year to complete, and they were commissioned by Native American historians. One pole is referred to as Eagle and the other as Raven, they’re called these names because of the animals on top. There are dozens of other animals carved into the two poles, and there are meanings behind the carvings. 5. Hidden Mickey Hunt If you love Hidden Mickeys, you’ll love Disney’s Wilderness Lodge! Ask at the front desk about the Hidden Mickey Hunt. You’ll be given a sheet with clues on where you can find a dozen Hidden Mickeys. 4. Silver Creek The water on property is called Silver Creek, and the headwater is the hot spring at the back of the lobby. Follow it to see Silver Creek Falls, into Silver Creek Springs Pool, and eventually into Bay Lake. Along the way you’ll see Firerock Geyser, which erupts approximately once every half hour. It is not all one system of water, there are three different systems. According to Disney legend, Silver Creek Springs was discovered by Colonel Ezekiel Moreland in the early 19th century. There is more to the back story, ask a Cast Member to learn the “history” of the property. 3. Blessing of the Four Directions If you visit during November, you might be able to witness something that you wouldn’t expect to find at Walt Disney World. Blessing of the Four Directions is a ceremony that is meant to drive out negative energy and bless the resort for the coming year. November is Native American Heritage Month, and two visiting interpreters will perform the ceremony. Blessing of the Four Directions is a short ceremony, so ask a Cast Member what time it will be performed so you don’t miss out. 2. Flag Family Each morning a family is asked to help raise the flag over Disney’s Fort Wilderness Lodge. If you’re chosen as the Flag Family, a ranger will take you to the roof for the honors. The view is something that you will never forget. If interested, ask about it when you check in. The longer you’re planning on staying at the resort, the higher the chance that you’ll be chosen. 1. Resort Tour Offered If you’d like to find out more about Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, a free tour is offered. The tour lasts about an hour, and you’ll learn about everything from the architecture to the stories behind the lodge. Ask plenty of questions, there’s little chance that you’ll be able to stump your ranger/guide. It's well worth it

WEDDINGS AT DISNEY Love is big business at Walt Disney World. It is the top honeymoon destination on the planet. That is not surprising, since Disney is filled with elegant castles, beautiful princesses, and their dashing princes. The fairy tale does not need to begin with the honeymoon, couples get married at Walt Disney World every single day. You can plan a wedding that is small and intimate, or you can instead turn your day into a royal occasion, the choice is yours. There is a lot of flexibility when it comes to your big day. There are many different places to hold a wedding at Walt Disney World, and the cast members want to do their best to make your special day magical. This list is not meant to help you plan your wedding. It is instead to give you a little bit of information that may help you decide whether or not a Walt Disney World wedding might be for you. If you decide that you would like to know more, call Marie 07971885041 From there, I will be able to give you a lot more information than you will find here. You will also want to check out disneyweddings.com. On the website you will get a feel for whether or not a Walt Disney World wedding might be for you. Disney hosts approximately 2,500 weddings a year. They must be doing something right. 10) Renew Your Vows You don’t have to be getting married to enjoy a wedding at Walt Disney World. It is the perfect place to renew your vows. All of the resources available to brides and grooms are available to anyone who wants to hold a renewal ceremony. What better way to celebrate a landmark anniversary? Turn a family vacation into the opportunity to show each other that you would do it all over again. Packages for commitment ceremonies are also available. 9) Start Planning Online You might worry that you’ll have a hard time planning your wedding if you live far away from Central Florida. Don’t worry, there are plenty of online planning tools that will help you to get started on creating your perfect day. The Dream Wedding Maker on the Disney Weddings website will allow you to try out different scenarios and see what you like the best. You can also choose colors, dresses, and plan other details on the site. You don’t have to decide immediately, you can save your choices for later. There’s a place to include your budget, so you will not fall in love with something that you can’t afford. There is also an “I’m just dreaming” option, you don’t need to actually be getting married in order to plan a wedding. 8) Plenty of Live Help There is also plenty of help available to assist you in planning your perfect day. Depending on which package you purchase, you can have help from myself who is a Disney specialist, Day of Coordinator, and a Wedding Event Planner. The cast members know how to plan a wedding and they will go all out to give you the day that you dream of. You will not be on your own. 7) Use the Facebook App If you are on Facebook you will want to “Like” the Disney Fairy Tale Weddings & Honeymoons page. Located at facebook.com/DisneyWeddings, you can create a personalized site to keep your family and friends up on all of your latest news and developments. Your friends do not even need to have a Facebook account to access your personalized site. Your Disney Wedding Planner will also be able to add information, so you will not have to worry that you forgot something. While you’re on the FB page, be sure to look through the photos. They will get you even more excited for your Walt Disney World wedding. 6) Choose From Three Different Packages In order to make a Walt Disney World wedding possible for anyone, there are three different packages to choose from. Each package has countless variables so that you will be able to customize your day. “Memories” is the least expensive package, starting at $2,495. The Memories ceremonies are intimate, with up to four guests, plus the couple. “Escape” is the second package. That is for the bride, groom, and up to 18 guests. Escape starts at $4925. The most elaborate package is known as “Wishes”. This is what you will want to choose if you are planning something larger or more elegant. Wishes starts at $12,000, and has the most variables. Remember that the prices given include only the basics, and are subject to change. Most of the theme park venues are available only through Wishes. 5) Add Fireworks Do you see fireworks when you look into each others eyes? The rest of your guests will be able to see them as well if you add them into your wedding package. At some venues you might be able to time your wedding so that you have either Wishes of IllumiNations in the background after you’re pronounced husband and wife. If that seems like too much of a bother and you’re willing to pay extra, you can include fireworks in your package. If you decide to add them you’ll know that they will be set off at the perfect moment, giving your wedding an extra that your guests will never forget. 4) Invite Some Disney Characters Disney characters are not going to be a part of your ceremony. They are not allowed to be witnesses or guests. You can, however, have them show up for part of the reception. The character appearances last for 30 minutes and you can have one or two characters at a time. Adding characters is a fun way to experience some extra Disney magic on an already magical day. 3) Pick Your Country or Park Have you always dreamed of a wedding in a faraway land? If so, you’ll want to check out all of the venue options available throughout World Showcase. Most of them are included only in the Wishes package, and you’ll be surprised by the variety of choices. You might want to exchange your vows in the Italy Plaza, or maybe the China Courtyard will make your dreams come true. Since World Showcase has well over a dozen different venue options, if you want an overseas wedding you can have it without leaving the United States. Of course World Showcase is not the only place to hold a theme park wedding. Also at Epcot you can get married “under water” at the Living Seas Salon. Disney’s Animal Kingdom has two venues in Africa. If you want something that no one will ever forget, have your wedding inside the Great Movie Ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. A wedding there can accommodate up to 78 guests. If your dream is to hold your wedding on the steps of Cinderella Castle you’re out of luck, weddings are not held inside the Magic Kingdom. You can, however, have the castle as the backdrop for your ceremony if you pick the Magic Kingdom Park Swan Boat Landing as your venue. 2) Feel Like Cinderella For the ultimate fairy tale wedding, Disney offers the Pumpkin Coach. It is, of course, based on the transportation that Cinderella took to and from the ball, although this one will not turn back into a pumpkin at midnight. The open aired carriage is white and it is led by a team of, what else, white ponies. Two elegant footmen and a driver are included but don’t worry, they won’t turn into mice if the clock strikes. The bride and groom will feel like Cinderella and Prince Charming as people watch the coach pass by. 1) The Most Popular Venue If you’d like a traditional wedding that is still filled with Disney magic, you will want to consider the Disney Wedding Pavilion. It is the most popular wedding venue on Walt Disney World property, and it is available in both the Escape and the Wishes packages. The nondenominational chapel can hold up to 250 guests, but smaller ceremonies are also held there. It is located on Seven Seas Lagoon and there are views of Cinderella Castle in the background. Up to six weddings a day are performed at the pavilion, seven days a week. The Disney Wedding Pavilion is also the home of Franck’s, which is a planning studio. It is based on Martin Short’s character in the movie Father of the Bride.
