Wokingham Theatre
Description
Wokingham Theatre is a community-run amateur drama group. Wokingham Theatre (WT) is one of the longest-running community theatre groups in the Berkshire area. Formed in 1947, the group moved to their current location in 1986. Hidden away next to the Cantley House Hotel on the outskirts of the town, WT puts on eight full-length productions a year of outstanding quality that belies the ‘am-dram’ tag. On each performance night, up to sixty people can have been involved in getting the show on its feet. From directing to designing stage sets, from on-stage to behind the scenes and even running the bar in the interval, WT is a thriving amateur group with over two hundred members making it a centre of creativity for young and old, veterans and beginners. It is a local gem for all Wokingham residents to enjoy. We have an annual audience attendance figure of over eleven thousand people.

Charity Performance at South Hill Park Studio. Raising a laugh to bring people together South Hill Park will host two nights of original comedy and music in aid of local community services. The show, called ‘You, Me’ and organised by Lesley Richards and David Wembridge, aims to raise money for the Befriending and Community Choices scheme run by the charity Involve, supporting people who might feel isolated or vulnerable because of ill-health or other circumstances. ‘The event brings together performers from last year, along with with actors and musicians from Bracknell, Reading and further afield. Lesley continues: ‘The show features sketches and songs—even a barbershop quartet—and a lot of new writing. It promises to be a lot of fun!’ . http://www.southhillpark.org.uk/events/you-me-in-aid-of-involve/

Our audiences have been full of praise for 'Doubt: A Parable', currently running at WT - you've got less than a week to catch this award-winning play! Some tickets still available on our website!
“Doubt requires more courage than conviction does, and more energy; because conviction is a resting place and doubt is infinite - it is a passionate exercise. You may come out of my play uncertain. You may want to be sure. Look down on that feeling. We’ve got to learn to live with a full measure of uncertainty. There is no last word. That’s the silence under the chatter of our time.” John Patrick Shanley. Our fabulous production of Doubt opens on Thursday, and there are still a handful of tickets left. Make sure you don’t miss out on this gripping modern drama about certainty and doubt, faith and belief, and the grey area that exists between right and wrong.
